keyless entry still won't work

I've posted a previous thread to see if I could find out why my keyless entry isn't working. http://forums.maxima.org/showthread....hreadid=165892 My mechanic believes (no, he's not a Nissan mechanic, but still) that the keyless entry module is to blame. A price quote from Nissan for the module was over $800! It's definitely not worth that to me. My mechanic was hoping to get one to find out for sure if that is the problem (hoping to give it back if it's not), but can't since it's special order. So, is there any way I can find out for sure if it's the problem (anybody else had one fail?)? Am I better off getting an aftermarket keyless entry?

Yeah that happened to me. I just bought another one off of ebay and programmed it and it has worked fine.

Actually, I'm not referring to the remote. I'm referring to the module in the trunk near the jack. I've already tried a new remote.

Please check the part number on the module you have in your car, and post it.

Yeah, other than aftermarket, I guess a junkyard is probably the best bet.

bhmax I have the module you talk about. It's called: "Keyless Remote Control Unit".

I have pics if you want, make me an offer.

I have the answer for all you guys with this proble, It cost me $200 at nissan to find out---but my loss is your gain. The module is located in the trunk behind a carpeted panel. When things move around back there (groceries in my case) they can bump the carpet and knock the plug out. This is your problem--guaranteed. To be honest--I forget which panel it is--but you cna find it easily. The plug is on the top of the unit--just plug it back in and re-set the remotes.

Let us all know if this is the problem--and if so--which panel it was so everyone else will know in the future. It happened to me twice and once on my wifes 4th gen max.

I believe the module you're looking for is in the rear passenger side of the trunk, near the mini-jack. Take the clips off of the surrounding trim and pull the panel back, there is a box back there called ASSY Keyless or something, and it has a plug of wires going in and what looks to be an antenna probably for the remote that runs out of the box. Take a look back there, again I'm not sure if that is the box you are referring to. The relay for it is the one right under the trunk latch, you may wanna check there to to make sure the relay didn't get disconeected from the plug, since i'm sure that area gets knocked around everytime you slam your trunk.

I've already removed and reinstalled the module. None of the wires appeared to be loose. I've also pulled out the relay and temporarily put in an identical one from under the hood. None of this helped. It's actually worse now. I can't even get it to go into the programming mode now(hazards won't flash); whereas before it would. Still leaning towards a new module...
