1998 GXE Rear Wheel Dust Caps Question

I bought a set of 17" Konig Imagines for my 98 GXE. In order to get the decorative center cap of the wheels to fit into the rim, the dust caps that cover the spindle nut and cotter key for the rear wheels had to be removed. The fronts fit with no problem.

I called Nissan and the mechanics said it wouldn't make any difference if I drove the car with the rears removed - they were merely dust caps and didn't really serve a purpose.

Are they right? Does anyone here have any experience with this type of thing?

Thanks!

you should be fine without them

thats why I run with only two Blitz centercaps (actually I only have three now since one popped off on some twistys... damn 40 dollar caps )

Thanks for the feedback. I feel better now. It's nice to talk to the dealers but I've experienced too many occasions when they said one thing when the truth was something entirely different.

Appreciate it!

I love the wheels - I bought the car new in early '98 and the odometer just rolled over 36,000 miles. The new wheels/rubber make it seem like a brand new car.

Mine are just like that with the Konig Maxxim Defcon-6 I have...no problems at all on fit once I removed the dust cap and slipped the hubcentric ring in.
