raced a 3000GT VR4...

I know that street racing is illegal but I couldn't help myself tonight on the way home plus nobody was around. Anyways, I rolled up to a light next to an older model 3000GT VR4(early 90's I think). I wasn't planning on racing but he reved at me so I thought O what the hell...
Off the line I pulled about 3/4 car lengths in front of him, he was at my rear passenger side door. We shifted at the same time and pulled a little more til about 6200rpm and shifted into third, that was when he caught out real quick, it was almost instantaneous. He practically made up the car length with just a few thousand rpm, we shut it down afterwards cuz we came to a light. Two things that suprise me was first of all, me being able to pull on him the first two gears (probably because he sucked at launching his AWD and his car is really heavy to start with), and second (which I expected) was his ability to catch up so quick (d*mn turbos) its times like this where I wish I had turbo or at least a MEVI. O well just thought I share with you guys.

Brandon-I was on State st actually after dropping off my girlfriend. We raced from 4800s going north to about the Honda/BMW delaership. We shut it down a little early cuz I was afraid of the cops and traffic and light. It was a deep forest green or some dark color, it was stock too.
Same ole same ole... no snow and it haven't snowed since christmas eve. Been busy with school and work, when are you coming back? Everyone needs to get again soon, I'm trying to get my other roomie to get a 4th gen too cuz his car just broke. Plus I'm getting my catback in a few weeks so I'm excited for that.
How is school going? hit me up with a email or pm anytime.

Good to know. Maybe with some more mods you can whip him.

I kinda raced a WS-6 yesterday. I knew I would lose, but I was surprised at how badly I lost. It was a fast car!!

He must have been a HORRIBLE driver..my frind has a '92 VR-4..those cars are stock with 320 hp, AWD, Twin Turbo..I never raced him but i have driven in it before and let me tell you he dropped the car at about 4000 rpm and i was literally thrown back in my seat..bottom line your competition messed up horribly, because he should spank you..also what kind of mods do you have, and i take it your a 5spd.

All I know is that there is a bright red VR4 at my school
(newest model they made, has the arched spoiler) and there is NO WAY IN HELL a Max could hang with it.

I do not know how modded he is but he's got a BOV and exhaust for sure.

Must have been a slow as.s VR4

He definitely must been a crappy driver. No way a Maxima could get a VR4 off the line. My friend used to have a '91 VR4, bone stock. He raced a C5 Corvette, he even pulled on the C5 off the line. That guy doesn't deserve to have a VR4.

you could definitely beat a base 3000gt. I while back I raced my friends 97 3000gt sl auto non turbo. I was stock and he had intake. We raced 4 times each time we brake launched and raced till like 70mph. I completely dismantled his car. I had like 5 cars on him by 70. He also spun like crazy off the line. They have 225hp and 205lb ft.

If you really beat a vr4 way to go. Here are some specs from www.fast-autos.net

I have Hybrid intake(popcharger and midpipe, hyperground and budget ypipe. Yea, I agree that he was a pretty bad driver, I was expecting to have me *** handed to me.

plus another thing was he was bone stock, probably didn't keep it in good condition because it took him to thrid gear to catch up.

dude, if it was an older gen 3000gt, than you should have pulled a tiny bit till his turbo's spooled, and then he should have ghosted you...the fact of the matter is..they are 320hp awd cars, and if it was a 93 or older, they only weigh like 32oo lbs, unlike the 94+ which weight close to 3900..so if it was 93 or less, you would have pulled on him a tiny bit...then turbos would have spooled, and you would have dissapeared in his rearview...well, at least the other 90% of average cars on the road will get spanked by us max owners...

Ever think that he was screwing with you? 1st and 2nd gear you were ahead. 2nd is good to 60-70 mph and then he INSTANTLY caught up. He was just playing with you. I do that all the time on my bike, chuckling to myself that people think their rides are quick. The VR4 is a VERY fast car that could pace you and walk away like you were towing a yacht.

Yea but I had my windows down so I could hear him next to and it sounded like he was trying but I didn't expect to win anyways. I was caught off guard by the way the race went.

yea, i wouldnt be ashamed to lose to a 3000GT...in fact i'm not ashamed to lose to any racing cars, especially coupes and stuff...i hate losing to 4 door sedans....much disrespect to those that lose to honda's, acura's, older BMW's....racing cars are good to lose to, after all, there only good for one thing....

90% of those older Mitsubishi's are running like $hit. I raced an older VR4 and kicked his a$$ twice. The car was jumping at idle and sounded like a fart off the line. My friend actually had a VR4 3 years back w/ 105,000 miles and engine blew going 55 mph down the highway. I will say that i wouldn't want to come across a VR4 that is mechanically sound.
