4th Gen VS. 5th Gen

I really dont know much about the 5th gens (00 and 01), except for the fact that they have the same engine as us and 222 hp. Now I just read that the 5th gens are slower than the 4th gens. Even if the weight went up, wouldnt the 32 hp compensate for it? Who would win at the track, a stock 4th gen auto, or a stock 5th gen auto (00-01)? What about a stock 4th gen auto vs. a stock 5th gen 5spd?
Thanks,
Dan

You must also remember that not all 5th gens are 222hp VQ30DE-K motor driven. The 2K2s and up are 255 hp VQ35DE powered. The VQ35DE 5th gens are blazing fast auto or manual. The 5th gen 222 hp VQ30DE-K cars such as my wife's are quick, but not that same blazing fast. Our 4th gens are VQ30DE not DE-K. Our cams are a little more radical and our intake is a little weaker. Just the same, The weight advantage of the 4th gen accounts for alot when it comes to the quickness of our cars. If you're referring to my thread about my wife and I, then alot of that competition has to do with the trannies. I will NEVER buy another max with an auto. They're not bad, but they're not AS good. Auto vs Auto, they would have been much closer, but the edge would've still gone to the 4th gen. Just because the HP is 32 less, the torque on the 97+ was still around 205 lb-ft. I think the 5th gen 3.0 liter motor was around 214, correct me if I'm wrong. From a stand still, the torque is where it's at.

actually DanSE clearly stated the years 00 and 01 5th gens, not the vq35's.
the hp advantage is mainly in the higher portion of the rpm band, where the VI kicks in. however from the feel, a 4th gen has more midrange power. that along with the weight advantage i would say puts the 4th gen just a tad ahead of the 5th gen vq30's.
my friend with a jwt pop raced two stock 01 auto's, (all being auto) and he beat them without any question.
now if you say that the intake made the 4th gen pull 1.5-2 car lengths, i don't think so.
by the way, im pretty sure the 2001 SE comes with 227hp.
to answer your other question, the 5th gen 5spd would easily take the 4th gen auto.

If the 2K1 SE was an anniversary edition, then it would have 227. I believe the regular SEs still only had 222. I'm not debating the fact that he stated 00-01s, I was merely adding to the info already provided.

I'm in no way an expert on this and never have been. Sorry if I was misleading.

no probs
the 2k1 is the AE with the 227hp, all other models have 222hp.

A 5spd 5th gen will smoke a 4th gen auto. I believe it will take a 4th gen 5spd as well but depending on the driver it would be close. I thought the 95-96 maximas had 205 lbs of torque as well. Does anyone know the exact spec?

yea...i would say in the quarter mile, even from posted time slips will show that the 4th gen auto vs 5th gen auto would be a close race but the 4th gen should take it by a little...if they raced up to like 120+, then the 5th gen should open up and take the win but 4th gens naturally have better times on quarter mile because of light body and torque....

plus the 4th gen looks better and instead of spending the extra 4-5 thousand to get a 2k1, just buy a turbo and be faster than a 2k2

4th gen 5speed would beat a 5th gen 00-01 auto. manuel to manuel? if stock even. but you can easily get 220 hp from 4th gen with y-pipie and intake.

Well the 00-01s have 217 torque to correct that. Also what did they do to the anniversary edition to give it 227hp instead of the normal 222? I would be interested to see.

I know the muffler is more free-flowing. There might be other exhaust or intake changes as well.

One more question: Is the mevi that people on here buy from japan, the same one as on the 5th gens?

4th gen manual can take a 5th gen manual, with equally skilled drivers.

DanSE, the mevi isn't from japan. MEVI stands for Middle Eastern Variable Intake, which comes from the middle east

its not the same as the one on the 5th gens.

i would like to see a race with a 4th gen and a 5th gen with the same rims.
i know the 5th gens have heavier 17's, which do slow them down a bit.

For the record, the fastest time anyone has gotten out of a stock DE-K 5speed is 14.7 The fastst anyone has gotten out of a stock DE 5speed is 14.8

222hp Vs. 227hp part # for both exhaust system is the same except for one peice, the B-pipe. The B-pipe of the SE AE is the same as the I30's.

Auto's Vs. Auto's, Manual's Vs. Manual's it all comes down to the driver since these cars are too close in performance.

You are correct sir, 227HP@6,400rpms but it makes the same HP and TQ on the dyno. One reason for that might be because of VLSD on the "T" and SE AE versions though...
