ProTorque converter

I sent an email to ProTorque to see what converters they have for the Maxima. I told them I wanted more driveability and better fuel economy if possible. I told them I wanted a converter with good response at light throttle and not one that requires the accelerator being floored to work well.

They gave me this part number: PTCDA39SS.

Do any of you all have this particular part? The guy who responded started talking about Turbo Z's and Supras running sub-10 second quarter miles. From the sound of the guy's email, I think they are trying to sell me on a street/race oriented converter when I specifically mentioned I did not want anything along that route that results in much more slippage in everyday cruising and acceleration.

Sounds like you want to keep your OEM converter. It offers good economy and decent light throttle response...

I was driving around today and controlling the gears my moving the shift selector from 1, 2, and D positions.

2nd gear seems to take off well as long as the road speed is at least 25. Its when coming around an intersection or out of a driveway at 10-15MPH and the transmission controller decides on going with 2nd gear. Get on the gas and the tach jumps to 2500 and hangs there while the road speed catches up around 30MPH. Its more than 2:1 slippage effect and it seems all its good for is bogging everything down and making all sorts of transmission heat in short order.

I don't like slippage.
