CEL not working!?!

Let's see. When I follow "zee book of instructions" (AKA Haynes Manual) it indicates, for certain procedures, that I should get a CEL, but I don't ever get one. I know that the CEL used to work. At one point I did clear it. Does this indicate a problem with the ECU?

You take out the cluster, turn it over, look in the left corner and pull it out. You can get a new bulb for really cheap, so if you want might as well replace it. Also if u turn the key to the ON position, to where you havent started the car. All the lights on the dash will come on, so if ur CEL is burnt out then it wont come on. I thought mine was burned out, but a friend showed me my car said "Service Engine Soon" instead of check engine.

whoa whoa Service Engine Soon, where is that?

off topic: does anyone have the part # for the bulb so that I only have to pull the dash out once?

My "check engine light" does not work and it is because of a problem with the ECU. When you take the instrument cluster out you can switch bulbs to verify the bulb is bad but it might be your ECU.

It was the bulb

Yeah, um I went to Napa (local auto part store) and asked if they have it. They said no. I called the nearest Nissan dealership, the guy in parts did not understand So I took matters into my own hands and took the bulb off of the "door is open" and put it on the CEL, and the light illuminated. I got a 0304 (knock sensor) which I will deal with.
