throttle body spacer? +5HP?

A mechanic at my work has a new 5-speed PT Cruiser that he is modifying. He already has a whole bunch of stuff done to it, and he has a throttle body spacer. It is a 1 inch wide piece of metal that has a cone shape to it that is supposed to swirl the air by forcing it into the center of the cone. He suggested that I get one of these and he will install it when we clean the throttle body on my Maxima. He said that it is supposed to give an extra 3-5 HP, and better gas mileage by forcing the incoming air and fuel vapors to swirl when they enter the cylinders, allowing more air to be forced in, and better combustion. Has anyone tried this product, is it worthwhile?

I dunno about Maxima's but a friend of mine has this on his S-10 ZR-2, and he said that it actually did help milage quite a bit. He didn't notice any performance loss or gain.

I've seen it work well on Tahoes and Vettes.

I plan on getting one in the spring. I have no expectations for performance gains. I just like the sound it makes.

A guy at my workplace has a V6 Accord Coupe and he has one on his car. He claims to have better gas mileage.

The only thing I'm worried about is the throttle cable. I'm not sure if it can be extended an extra inch. Can anybody confirm?
