Congrats.

You need some strong arms, some gaskets, superglue, and some car wax... b/c you want to make sure that doesn't rust

As far as tools, you'll need a breaker bar, swivel ratchet, 6", and 10" extensions, univeral joint, 14mm deep socket, 12mm socket, 02 sensor socket. see my homepage for a writeup - page 3.

There are no pre-requisites for a Y pipe - it's simply a direct swap replacement of the factory Y pipe.

I'd also add Anti-seize for O2 sensor threads.

In my suggestion, if you're completely stock I'd consider a FSTB and RSB before power mods. But if you want just power, then the Y-pipe is good alone. An intake would help the car breathe better in addition to the Y-pipe but it's not a necessity.

Where can you get a breaker bar? I went to pepboys and they had no clue what I was talking about.

not to insult your mental capacity, but it never hurts to be said again:

USE RAMPS OR JACKSTANDS, NEVER GET UNDER A CAR THAT IS SUPPORTED BY ANY KIND OF JACK ESPECIALLY THE STOCK SCISSOR JACK!

thats all.

Home Depot sells od sized electical conduit piping taht fits over ratchets. They are $1 each and work great as breaker bars. just make sure you have a quality ratchet or you may break it (hence the term breaker bar).

no after market muffler/exhaust or pipe are needed to install a y pipe , so its just direct replacement

if so then i want one

yes it a direct replacement, you do not need any other exhaust or pipe for the y pipe.

Do the y pipes come with holes to screw your O2 sensors back in?

I wouldn't! Not sure if the Maxima's 02 sensors ground at the threads, but MANY do. Just use a tap to clean out threads, and torque to spec. If it is seized, it is most probably due to overtorqueing, and NOT rusting.

If you order the correct y-pipe for your year maxima it will. If you order from warpspeed or budget they ask what year and if cali spec or fed spec.

I've installed a Y-pipe on my car four times. One time I didn't use Anti-seize and I had to torch the O2 sensors out and it cost me about $200 to replace them.

Anti-seize helps prevent rust, but it also lowers the coefficent of friction and reduces galling from temperature expansion. Myself and many others have installed Y-pipes with anti-seize on the O2 sensors and our cars have run for years without a problem.

That's nice that all these aftermarket people, not Nissan, recommend it. But what about Nissan? If you do it right, you shouldn't be using antiseize. It's just that simple.

As for torching damaging your O2 sensor, bull. The heat from the torch would NOT have damaged the O2 sensor. Take a look a look at a schematic of an O2 sensor, there is nothing in there that could have been damaged by the heat. Many turbocharger people know that O2 sensors are often contaminated by oil blow through the turbocharger, and that this can cause it to malfunction, though it is not failed. What do they do? They remove it from the exhaust, torch it, spray with brake cleaner, torch again, and reinstall.

And by lowering the coefficient of friction, it does not allow you to accurately torque the bolt/nut to spec. You will ALWAYS be overtorquing. Thus, if you torque a bolt with anti-seize, to the torque recommended withOUT anti-seize, you have now overtorqued the bolt/nut.

Then there is the chance of contamination. If the anti-seize gets onto the probe part, it will invariably contaminate the O2 sensor.

One is best off ensuring clean thread by running a tap on the O2 flange, the O2 sensor itself, and torquing to spec, WITHOUT any greases or anti-seize, which will affect accurate torquing.

Yes,it should have 2 holes,1 for each bank. But make sure you check and see if your 97's fed or cali spec.I think the cali spec has 3 holes(not sure on the 97 but the 99 up was).
