Gauge Bulbs and Heat Sheild? Melting?
My question is for those who have taken their gauges apart.. there are four 194 bulbs that light up the gauge cluster.. but the regular 194 bulbs come with a thin blue cover.. I was wondering if these covers were to reduce heat or was there another reason.. also can you buy these covers anywhere else and get them clear.. I want to change the bulbs to red to contrast with my reverse indigos.. so if I replace the bulb and I don’t replace the blue cover should I expect melting?

I think the stock covers are there mainly to make the color a little whiter as the bulbs underneath are clear.
You can get 194 bulbs in red that will do what you want just fine without needing the covers.
The only problem with colored bulbs is they won't be as bright as the clear bulbs.
Also, there are actually 5 bulbs that light up the gauge cluster.
They also have 194 LED bulbs that are quite nice. I have blue in my car. Got them from www.superbrightleds.com cheapest place I've found.
good luck.
