Aftermarket Muffler Length = Longer is Quieter?

Looking at some new aftermarket mufflers out there, I see that the body lengths are either 14 or 18 inches long.

I've seen some people on this board use the Borla Turbo mufflers and Borla recommends a 14 inch long body of the muffler. Some people have complained about some noise / drone.

Would this be reduced if the muffler had an 18 inch long body?

My stock 97 SE muffler body is 19 inches long.

Yes...the general rule is the longer the more quite it would be. The type of sound damping material matters too. I believe stainless steel wool is better than fiberglass.

My setup is a WSP SS Ypipe, and Budget B-pipe with a resonator. I have a Borla ProXS(Turbo) muffler, 14 inch body. There is NO DRONE when cruising at any speed. If I get on it, it gets loud and sounds very mellow and smooth. I highly recommend a Borla muffler, they are very quiet. Do a search, member VQdriver has a Borla and his posts/comments swayed me into getting one.

I called up jeggs to see if they carried a proxs muffler for the maxima but they dont. Where did you order it from? Also is it a direct fit or is it universal?

The ProXS and Turbo mufflers are the same thing. Jegs lists Turbo mufflers, they are the same as the ProXS.

get it from here...

Its just a universal muffler, I had a shop make a rear section for me.
