I bought my max used and have had it for about a month now. Ever since I have had it, the clearance lights do not "brighten" when the turn signal is engaged. Also, the turn signal lights go crazy. I bought it w/an aftermarket security system installed, and the clearance lights do come on whenever a security code is accepted. I was thinking that this was the problem, but who should I take it to to figure it out? The alarm place? A Nissan mechanic? OR myself? thanks

The clearance lights aren't supposed to brighten when you turn on your turn signal. They used to once upon a time in previous years, but no longer. If you would like them bright all the time, you can do the clearance light mod. Instructions found by going though www.maximadriver.com

Clearance lights are like an appendix, a vestigial organ with no real function any more.

I thought that the 95 maxima still had clearance lights?

They may still operate as clearance lights, I was going to comment on that, but then I remembered they have the clearance light mod for 95-96 Maximas too. I have a 97, but I thought clearance lights were only used pre 4-th gen. I could be wrong. Anyone have any input on this? It would be nice to know for sure.

on 95-96, with headlights on, when you signal one direction, that side's clearance light will "brighten" or send power to both filaments.

The clearance lights next to the headlights on 95-96 models DO get brighter when then turn signal is on. They stopped that function in the 97-99 models. Why? Who knows..

If you're good with electronic wiring, you might want to get a Haynes book and see if you can figure out what's up.
