What do you think about this Idea?

I think I have made an awful mistake in buying a Maxima with an automatic trans. What I'm thinking of doing is selling my max that has about 88k miles and its a 1995. I would take off the mods I have on it now and put ont he stock parts. I would keep the mods off to the side and try to buy a 95-97 5spd Max. I would then put my mods back onto my newly purchase car. I'm doing this cause I really want a 5spd. I'm dying because of it, i want it so bad. What do you guys think?

The auto ads a feeling of luxury in the car, but the 5 speed is definately much more fun. I drive my mom's 5speed Max as much as I can. It's so hard to go back to my auto after driving hers around for a day. I say go for the 5 speed.

Dont

Dont waist your time, A trade in with dealers is so gay they wont give you the real worth of your car and you will end up loosing about 3 grand in the process, instead just convert your car, yes retro fit it, Go to an AAmco transmision place and it will cost around 1200-1800 saving you a lot of hard earned doh!

or try to sell your car on your own and buy a 5 spd maxima. that way you wont lose as much at the dealers. if the difference is less than a swap, than go for it. if not, than swap.

He did not say a thing about trading it into a dealer. You know some people do buy and sell private party. Your comment in this thread is about as stupid as the other thread you just started, "raced another Max before I crashed".

I say do what makes you happy. There is no point in having thousands of dollars invested in something you don't much like. Yhea the couple of months it will take to get it all done will be kinda of a pain, but the years of being able to enjoy it are worth it. You may loose a little bit of money, depending on what your car is worth etc, etc.....

Hey, might as well keep your eyes open for a 5-speed I30 as well

Ya my plan was to sell the car privetly, and then try to buy a 5spd privately. I'm pretty sure this could be done plus the money i make over the summer working. I think it would be a worth while investment.

Bro, thats a great idea. I was in your exact position when i had my first maxima, a 95 GLE wit 110,000 miles. Problem is, my car wont sell for much and unless you willing to add an extra 2,000 to the price, you wont be able to afford one. I would have loved to find someone wit 5 speed and same mileage as my car and just do an even trade but its too hard to find. Obviously you wouldnt go through dealer cause they would beat u for your money, but u could sell it and buy a 5 speed 95 but expect to pay a little more, even though auto's are more expensive than 5 speeds.

I took the easy way out and converted my car to 5 speed. Advantages? you know how well u took care of your car so u dont have to worry about buying some beat down 5 speed which is on its last leg

You dont have to go through the drama of taking all your mods out

You have taht sentimental value, you get to keep that maxima u loved dearly

And you dont have to fight searching for a 5 speed, just have yours converted. There are endless stories of converted maxima's on here, no one has had any problems wit their converted cars except those that bought f'ed up trannies to begin with. Normally people buy a new clutch, etc. and even wit brand new parts, at worst, you'll be spending an extra 2.5 grand but thats for a brand new clutch, cylinders, etc.

I would save myself the trouble and do a conversion...

i was in a similar problem as you. i didnt want to sell and buy i new 5speed max, because this one is almost paid off and i dont want to restart car payments while im in college. so i decided that i would convert, then the service department said that it would void my warranty.

heres my take: i still have 2 years left on my warrany so i dont want to screw that up, so i talked to the guy at the dealership (friend of ours) and he said that if my auto tranny blows, they will put in a 5speed under warrany, free for me. this is good for them as well since a 5speed is much cheaper to get than an auto. but if my tranny doesnt go, im stuck with auto till i buy my new car in a few years. but i am always modding so its not that bad.

if you have the money convert. if i didnt have 2 years left on my warrany i would have a 3rd pedal in my car right now

Conversion?

If I even consider the 5spd conversion, i would have no idea where to do it. The only place I heard of that does it are those guys in Florida. I'm in chicago, so where are places where I can get info on it? Otherwise I'm thinking of just selling mine and searching for a 5spd. In the long run I'll be waiting longer, but I think i'll save some money

I say go for it. Selling my '96 GLE and buying my 5speed I30 was one of the best decisions I've ever made (well at least having to do with cars).

I am in your current position also. I wish I would have gotten a 5spd...and I am still thinking about doing the conversion on my 99gle. Hey does anyone know who I can talk to about doing this in Cali? I heard that there were some ECU problem with doing this.

Well, i think i'm seriously going to do this, but its not even going to be real till the end of the summer
Just cause I'm bored i've been searching the net and searching for 95-97 maxs and couldn't find one 5spd so hard. Damn when I was looking for an auto all i could find was 5spd, now looking for a 5spd all I find is an auto

Here's a thought, put the car in reverse and floor it. When you have built up enough pressure in the tranny (I'd say about 50mph-in reverse should do it) drop that biatch to drive and floor it. Sure you will go through a set of tires, but that's a lot cheaper than doing the conversion out of your own pocket.
Or here's another one, try the tried and true neutral drops or you can just torque brake till you burn up the cluthes. That is if the dealer will really fix the car for you. If you were being sarcastic then never mind all my jibberish.

Yea but mecca...4 months down the road you got broadsided and all that labor for switching it over to 5spd, finding the tranny, getting the brand new ACT clutch, were down the drain...

I do know now, that you have a sweat ride on your hands but still, I think that the convertion, unless your a macanic, know the parts your buying are good, is a waste of money..sell it, and get a 5speed max with all the 5spd parts in there like the moter mounts, cables and ish..all that
