Engine coolant temp sensor

What makes that sensor go off? My coolant is full. I don't understand what the problem would be. If you can help thanks.

If you are getting a code, chances are it has failed. It is even possible for a bad ECTS to be giving off bad readings (on coolant temperature) and not giving off a code. Has nothing to do with how much coolant you have in the system. It is not an expensive part so don't feel bad if it needs replacing.
