How many mile left ; Before
You never should because there is alot of deposits and stuff that settle on the bottom of your gas tank, depending on milage...but just fill up on 1/4 tank and youll be fine

You have awhile after it FIRST comes on...it will come on, go off, come on, go off...stay off if you coast and come on if you floor it, etc...then it will stay on no matter what. That's when you need to find something pretty soon. I'd say you've got at least 30-40 miles after it first comes on, however, provided you drive conservatively.

only one way to find out...remember that seinfeld episode where kramer kept going? that was gold, pure gold!
i never let it get to that point anymore though so i don't need to worry about things like that.

seems like it may vary from car to car. Typically it's supposed to be around 2 - 3 gallons still left when the gas light goes on. Estimating a regular maximas fuel economy.. at around 20-23 mpg in city driving and 24-30 highway driving.. you should be good for 60 miles.. But don't push it or try finding out the hard way. Running out of gas is not fun.
My car begins to hiccup around 25 miles after the light goes on, at which point i have to keep it in low RPMs to still be able to drive..

I've always heard about cars having a reserve where you hold like 2 - 3 gallons of gas just in case. I like an idiot have searched for this dang thing. What do people talk about when they say this? I have no idea.
Running your car low on gas could potentially shorten the life of your fuel pump.

I have seen the bottom of quite a few gas tanks with my own eyes... and I have NEVER seen this mystical bed of deposits. Whoever sees that stuff has to be using some cheap-nasty gas.
Explain how anything could settle at the bottom of a container that is constantly sloshing around with gasoline in it... especially when that gasoline is being constantly used and replaced.
I just replaced the fuel pump bracket on my '85 Yota because it has seen so many miles the top of the bracket where all the wiring enters the gas tank was corroded and falling apart. There were NO DEPOSITS at the bottom of my gas tank... and that thing has over 250,000 miles on it. I had some pictures around here somewhere cause I was showing someone the bracket, but I can't find em.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but, isn't the fuel sucked from the bottom of the tank no matter how much fuel is in it?

good question..
and is it true about not filling up when you see a tanker filling up the station because it stirs up the sediment in their tanks and it ends up in your tank? because i took about 5 bucks worth of that stuff.
-does filling UP have advantage over not all the way up- because of pressurizing the tank or anythign?

Wow... where to begin.
Myth debunked: Sediments wil settle to the bottom of the tank overnight and the fuel is sucked from the bottom of the tank. If the "sediments" thing were true, everytime you start in the morning, you'd suck up a bunch of sediment.
Fuel pumps use the fuel as lubrication so running the fuel pump without fuel can be detrimental to its life.
As for the tankers filling at the station, the fuel is filtered before it gets pumped into your car. So regardless of sediment being in the tanks, it won't end up in your own gas tank.
The Fuel likght comes on when you have approximately 3 gallons left. My light just came on today. I filled it up. 15 gals on the pump. Max fuel tank is 18.5 Gals, however, you'll never be able to use all 18.5 gals before the car runs out of gas. So, figure that you have in between 2 and 3 gals when the light comes on.
If your light doesn't work. That sucks for you. Oh well, carry around a .5 gallon gas can filled in case your run out and secure it in the trunk with straps.
I noticed as you start to run low on fuel, the car takes longer to start (on the order of a second or so, not much at all, but noticeable). Don't know why, just happens.
This is all real and true. I hope this helps all you guys.
