How often do you change your oil/filter?

The owners manual says to change the oil and the oil filter every 3750 miles if you drive a certain way, or every 7500 miles if you drive a different way. I assume many people here change their oil every 3000 miles because that just seems to be the number thrown around.

I always check the oil The following day after the change, and then every other week. to make sure its not low, or really dirty. Or I change the oil 2500-3000 miles. I just changed the oil past Friday and I was at 2600. So, I guess around there.

I change mine about every 2500 miles , at least i say that and it ends up 3000 . Some people go more but i wouldn't recomend it, you would loose performance and engine life.

usually every 3000 miles, but sometimes the dealer tells me I can go up to 3750 miles b/w oil changes so for me its usually every 3000 miles or b/w 3000 to 3750 miles

3-4000 miles depending on temps and whether hwy or city driving. An oil change is only about $6-7 to do it yourself...so its cheap insurance

I am using AMSOIL 0W-30 Synthetic Oil. The oil is a 35K oil however I change it every 12 months (12K miles). I use Baldwin Oil Filters and change them every 6 months (Baldwin makes AMSOIL Oil Filters). I get them locally for $5 vs $10 for AMSOIL. Analyze oil at every oil change with excellent results. Also using AMSOIL Synthetic ATF in tranny and power steering system. Currently have 4 cars using AMSOIL 0W-30 without any problems, ie.leaks, burning oil, noise.

Can you describe in detail what you mean by a "35K oil" and it having zero weight? I'm gonna have to check into this.

AMSOIL has designed this oil with its additives to go up to 35K but it must be changed every 12 months. So I change it every 12 months which is about 12K miles for me. 0W is the pour point of the oil when it is very cold but the key is 30 at operating temps. The wear characteristics of this oil is amazing. Check out www.AMSOIL.com for info. There are forum members who are dealers that will sell you AMSOIL products at a discount as well.

I use Mobil 1 oil .. which I get for free since my father owns a Grease Monkey. =) Well, I usually do it every 5-6k miles which is fine. But with regular oil, best do it around 3k, nothing over 4k because then you might need an engine flush, or else right after you change the oil, its still black. I see many people at Grease Monkey and I cringe when their oil is black and stays black.! O well, can't make them do anything

I change my oil every 8,000 miles. I use amsoil 5w-30 which has the 15,000 change interval but I don't like the feeling of leaving my oil in there for that long so I change it at 8k.

Just a technicality, 0W doesn't exactly have to do with pour point only. It's really more of an indication of well the oil flows at -35C.

For those looking to read more on viscosity and lubrication in general, there are some articles here to read.

For some more detailed information on what some members are using for oil and their drain intervals, Bill's spreadsheet is located at http://forums.maxima.org/showthread....hreadid=100060

Personally I ran 8k intervals (with Amsoil 5W-30) in a 97 Max that was driven extremely hard. The oil had no issues doing this and was good for longer use.
