Car Help.

I have a problem with my '99 SE 5spd. When the car is parked over night or for a longer period (6+ hours) when I start it the revs go up then come right down and the car almost stalls and then they go back to normal again... anyone knows what that might be ?

thanx

this happens to mine too but i guess it's normal. Also, only in the cold weather. Anybody else have an idea?

i think most cars rev high after ignition if i'm not mistaken.. then it normalizes itself.. your idel might be too low.

I don't know much, but some "common sense" would tell me to check spark plugs, throttle body, ignition system... just stuff that could be either old or dirty. DO NOT GO TO A DEALER, unless it's one you really really trust.

Go to the dealer experience forum and ask around for a good one in your area.

This is a common problem and easily repairable... well, it isn't really a repair, more like a maintenance thing, but whatever.

Anyway, like I said, easy and cheap: just go here, and follow the instructions.

I try to do it before every winter season.

I had the same problem clean your throttle body, mine wasn't even that dirty, but after a good clean the revs went up (to about 1500RPMs) on a cold start and STAYED UP and gradually came down to normal idle as the car got warmer. Believe me clean your throttle body and it'll be fine. Go to motorvate.ca for a write up with pictures.
