knock scesor

knock scesor

I hear alot lately on the knock sensor. If I unplug mine the car runs the same. I gas it and have no low end however afer about 3 grand it picks up like a rape date. what is up

the ecu retards the timing. since it can no longer tell if the fuel is high enough octane that no knocking will occur, so it assumes that every compression stroke would cause knocking and retards the timing accordingly. this way, you will not ruin your engine from knocking even if the knock sensor is dead. the downsides are that you have poor mileage and performance. but better than loosing an engine.

If:

1) you feel no difference if the KS is connected or disconnected
2) you have no low end power

Then:

You need a new knock sensor.

Pull the codes from your ECU. If you get 0304, then that is more proof that your KS needs replacing.

My valves tick alot, could my knock sensor be messed up or suttin ? Could there be a way to set my timeing , i know its off.

The knock sensor won't affect valve ticking. There is no way to set the timing, it is controlled by the ECU.

a bad knock sensor will kill your gas mileage and HP. If the O2 are bad too....mmm you will get like 16mpg
