How did DavidL make Red/Clears?

How exactly was DavidL the only person that ever made red/clears? How did he do it? I am getting very frustrated trying to find red/clears for a decent price. $200+ is not decent. If anyone has any ideas on how I could change my orangies to clear (even if it will look like absolute crap). I have no use for my tails anymore, so I am willing to sacrifice my tails in order for research... help me out! Thanks!

DavidL bought clear taillights(no longer produced) and painted them.

To change your orange you have to cut it out and make your own cover and lens.

ummm, ya know for 20 beans you could always order a nicely made insert from 97metallicGXE, then take your lenses, pop em in the oven, for like five mins @ 200 degrees, then pluu them apart, pull out the orange insert, replace with clear insert, stick the ***** back together, and BINGO, U got red/clears! YAAAAAAAAAAY!
(unless you gotta 95/96, then ur F*CKED

Is this even possible at home?

You can find the instructions at http://www.vqpower.com/v2/modules.ph...howpage&pid=34
or

http://www.maximadriver.com/ go to How To section

Let me know how it goes, im too chicken to do it myself and will probably look for a taillight at the junkyard when things get warmer to play with it..

Different tails.

I've heard of painting the inside of the brake light part red, this has worked on other cars i've worked on with friends. Or try using red tape. Try seaching for those.

Is the orange some kind of paint? What if I opened up the light and used paint thinner to get the paint off? I should just open it up and try all kinds of things to remove the orange.

it's a solid orange piece, not like the 97-99's where it comes out, it's attached in there.

since the clears cost $160 .. then he has to open them up and then paint them adn then ship them to you.. $200 is too cheap..

Id make them myself if i was you, for the 95-96 you got to buy a all clear on, these you can get from nopi.com or any site that sells clear lights, them paint the botom part with tail light paint and it matches up prity nice, if you got a 97+ then its even easyer, beacue they come apart and the orange comes out.

nopi does not sell clear taillights anymore. Their website is messed up. If you find another website that does than good job. But no the orange isn't painted. You have to cut it out. With like a rotary tool or something.

this topic has probably been covered so many times... but anyway, if you really wanted to make true clear/red 95-96 tails without painting a set of clear tails, then you would probably physically cut the orange piece out of the 95-96 tail perfectly and use the aftermarket 95-96 clear outer tail and cut that cleared out piece perfectly....

although i would only attempt do this project if i actually was bored to death and had nothing else better to do. Maybe I'll do this during the summer time??? I'm not worrying about it right now since I have my own set of davidL7 tails....

Although I do have a set of used 95-96 clear outer tails where i totally messed up the bottom half of the lense when attempting to paint them. So I messed up the red paint job and screwed up the plastic lense by using some kinda spray which is supposed to get rid of the paint, but ended up destroying the plastic lense. But the top clear lenses are fine!

I just read through the step-by-step over at vqpower, and it looks like too many oppertunities to totally destroy your stock tails. I like the how-to on the custom skyline lights...that might be the ticket for my ride...we'll see.

He said he wants some r/c's for cheap, a rear lid is not considered "cheap."

would getting a trunk lid and switching to 97+ tails be cheaper than buying the expensive red/clears?

I've got 95-96 all clears in the FS section that I'm running an "auction" on. I'm giving people until noon saturday EST to bid. High bid right now is $130. That's pretty cheap.

VQPOWER.com shows how to make the orange part red but not how to make red and clears, even tho all red looks nice i want red/clear . Im planning to do this within the next 2 or 3 weeks. Is it better to paint or use some sticker everyone is talking about.

I dont understand why the clear lights have to be taken apart to be painted, it seems pritty easy to me if I paint good.

because if you paint the outside..

#1 the color doesn't match stock
#2 it looks dull and pink
#3 over time the paint starts to strip
#4 you look like every broke civic owner who couldn't buy proper tails

#5 You will have clear scratches if something rubs against the tail surface.
