ECU, MIL, Brake and battery lights
Okay, bear with me a minute,
97 SE-5SPd, 200,000 kms. About a year ago, the MIL came on with the EVAP Vent Control Valve, EVAP system leak and the ghost knock sensor code. After changing the valve and the canister, the MIL stayed on with the same codes, but since I was convinced the car was running fine, I just kept driving. I had reset it numerous times and it would come back, or it would go away for no reason and come back three or four days later.
Finally, about two months ago, I went to my dealer for a servicing and asked them to find out why I kept getting the MIL and they said it was either a short circuit or that the ECU was faulty. They called back and told me that the ECU was faulty and that I should get a new one. Not wanting to spend the outrageous amount they wanted for a new one, I decided to live with the MIL (maybe remove the bulb at some point) and just pull the codes periodically or whenever I felt the car run a bit off.
Anyway, today, out of the blue, the parking brake light and the battery light came on when I started my car up. I checked the brake fluid level and its okay, my brakes feel and perform fine. I also checked my brand new serpentine belt and its fine and I have no problems with power in the car.
My questions are as follows: Do these lights have anything do to with the ECU? and if so, what is my best option for replacing it? Can I buy an aftermarket one or should I stay with the OEM one?
I also just moved to Chicago so if anyone knows of a good reputable trustworthy shop, please let me know. I live in the West Suburbs.
Thanks,
Plomb

Curious, what codes keep setting off the MIL?

0903 - EVAP Canister Vent Control Valve
0304 - Knock Sensor
If you have any insider knowledge of these, please let me know. I am dying to get rid of that MIL!
