need for acceleration?

I have a 97 maxima with a CAI and catback system. It is an automatic, but for some reason my first gear seems like it is dragging. I am looking for some added accceleration out of the whole, while my top end speed is fine for me. I am looking to improve my off the line acceleration in first and low second gears. What should I get to solve this problem? Please help!

CONVERSION.....then get a supercharger and run a small pulley like a 3.125 then im sure you feel a differnce in low end power.

Besides adding performance mods, with an auto, unless you come to a complete stop the tranny will not shift into first.. so that could give you the impression of a lack of power.

Even a SC with a 3.125" Pulley doesn't kick in very much until 3000RPM.

But yeah - the 5spd would do it.

A transmission flush may be in order, but then it might come back worse than before, like mine. I hate the infiniti dealership!

It shouldn't, but mine did. I'm taking it back tommorrow to let them drive it, so they can tell me that they don't feel it and then do absolutely nothing about it.

Not true. Anything 37 mph or under in my '95 Auto would shift into first. But maybe that's a complete stop for you.

A lot of times when they flush the transmission, it doesn't get everything out. Sometimes the gunk affects the tranny in a not so bad way, and since components wear, then gunk gets broken loose(like in the valve body) it can cause other things to clog up. This can happen mostly when they do a reverse flush, that is sending fluid in the opposite direction of the normal flow. Changing the fluid shouldn't do much to affect it adversely though. But remember, most of the fluid is in the torque converter, only about 20% or so is in the actual transmission.

I took my car to the dealership today and the head mechanic drove and said he felt nothing. This did not surprise me, but the thing that really got me was the fact that they asked me to wait out by the showroom, then 15 minutes later come back and ask me what it was that they were looking for. wtf? Then they didn't have the courtesy to let me know that it was ready so I could leave and didn't find anything. I was just wondering around the showroom for almost an hour, not fun. When I finally got tired of waiting I went back to the service dept. and they told me that they didn't notice anything, they said that we could take another ride but I was pretty upset by now so I just asked for my keys, shook my head at the service manager, and walked out. From now on, if I ever MUST go to the dealer it wil be nissan and not infiniti. Then on the way home I noticed it doing the same thing! Its not as bad as it was about a week ago, but then again today was the warmest day around here for 2 weeks. Oh well, I guess its just one of those days.

The best part is that they don't charge as much as the infiniti dealer.

That also happend to me after I did flush on the transmision, and now the shifting on the transmision its bad. it kicks when it changes gears. i dont think thats normal for 99 nissan maxima with 50k miles on it.

I know how it feels, all the dealerships are the same , i have been into two diffrent dealership and both told me the same thing, and i am pretty sure that there is something wrong with my car. they all do the same thing. they dont want to bother with problems like that. if your car runs they say its fine. the same thing happend to me. and all they told me was they cant find anything wrong with it "IF IT HAPPENS AGAIN PLEASE COME BACK", its like i really like to stay there for couple hours and hear from them nothing is wrong with my car. for example my car engine viberates. and i took it to the dealer and they said its fine they all do that. i told them my transmision kicks. and they said thats also normal when it shifts. i dont know what to do or who i listen too. its like they are no help. i am thinking about calling Nissan of north America and put compliant against the dealer ship. tell them i fell the problem and when i go there they tell me nothing is wrong. wtf

Go to the northeast forum here on the .org and post something and I'm sure someone will help you out, it can be hard to find a good mechanic who is also trustworthy.
