locking diff identification

locking diff identification

I just got my 5sp. VLSD trans in. what is the notation on the vin tag that verifies locking diff.? is it the TT?

Look for the vin plate on the firewall. Find the tranny code. If your tranny code looks like this: RS5F50V, then you have a locking diff. Otherwise you'll have an A insead of a V at the end of the tranny code (means open diff).

I am asking cause I bought a VLSD tranny from a '96 I30. I just wanted to make sure it is what I paid too much for.

Look on the tranny itself then. The code should be etched in the top of it.
