Bose HU replacement

I've done a lot of reading on this subject and I think I know what to do but wanted to run it by the pros.

I have a 95 Infiniti J30 and want to replace the Bose head unit. A friend of mine has a 95 maxima and our head units are IDENTICAL. I went to crutchfield and selected my car as a 95 maxima since nothing comes up for the J30.

When I select a head unit, they recommend I purchase an adapter that will let me use the existing Bose speakers (with the bose amps).

The description for this adapter is "OEM Amplifier Integration 94-up Nissan/Infiniti Lets you integrate a high-powered aftermarket receiver into select 1994-up Nissans with premium factory systems • MOSFET 45 Compatible - Adapter requires adjustment of 4 level controls to match the output of the aftermarket radio to the input of the factory amp(s). "

I'm guessing that this thing is wired between the new head unit and the factory harness.

Have any of you gone this route to simply replace the head unit?

Carlos

As a follow-up to this post. Can any of you 4th-gen maxima owners tell me if the '95 maxima with the bose system had tweeters?

My Infiniti J30 shares the same head unit as the '95 maxima but my car has two tweeters in the a-pillar.

Thanks, Carlos.

We do have a tweeter in each pillar.

Honestly, if you want to replace your headunit, I think you would be better off replacing your speakers too, rather than try to ghetto-adapt the new HU to work with the Bose stuff.

Yeah I'm thinking about doing that but I have found a harness made by Scosche (sp?) that will allow you to use the existing bose stuff with an aftermarket head unit.

I agree, it would be nicer to just rip it all out but I may replace just the head unit as an interim step before I decide what I'm going to do with all the speakers.
