These on right? ( B&G springs) <Need answer quickly!!!>

Are these upside down? The way they fit in there looks right, but I want to make sure because my car is sagging bad in the rear.

The problem is that with them on this way, there is a 3 finger gap in front, and a 1 finger gap in rear.

If I put anything in the trunk, there is no finger gap or less.

I have to remove my entire stereo system and back seat to get to them, so there's about an hour of work just to get prepped to do it.

The springs are definately in upside down. You can see the lower coil isn't sitting tight on the shock. It should be a precise fit on the shock, nice and tight hugging it. The upper perch doesn't look right either, but maybe it's just your picture.

In this OEM breakdown the spring appears to have smaller coils on the bottom. But it's only the last winding thats actually smaller at the bottom, not the coil spacing. The rear springs have a slightly smaller winding at the bottom where they sit on the shock. In your picture the lower coil looks to big for the shock perch. Looks almost like it can fall off one side if it's jared hard enough. Closer spaced coils always go on top in our suspension. The OEM spring is pretty linear and doesn't really have any closer spaced coils. Aftermarket, progrssive springs do.

Turn those puppies around and check the assembly with the image I've attached.

installed correctly...

...your B&G springs look the same as mine - about 4 coils are compressed at the bottom once the vehicle is under load. My writing was right side up once the springs were installed. The pic is a bit blurred, did you use new upper spring seats, is there some sort of "spring wrap" (polyurethane tube) on the bottom coil between the spring and lower seat? Measure on a level surface to the wheelwell edge - are the measurements equal? I just measured mine and (still on the OEM 15 inch rims) I get 26.5" to the wheelwell lip. I get just a slight slope to the rear when I check at the door sil using a level. on the opposite end of ideas - is it possible you added or incorrectly installed the front struts? whats the measuremnt to the front wheel lip edge? I feel your pain. It's time to disassemble and start over again from square one. I had one front strut fully installed only to recall I left out the top gasket... no other option but to disassemble. Be Safe, Mark V.

flat on top...

I recall reading that the rear springs are flat on top and slanted on the bottom. Once the spring is correctly installed in the lower perch it should meet squarely with the upper seat. The expolded drawing that was posted should help identify correct assembly.

Well I read a few days ago that the closer coils should go on top (that's how mine go too) Also what do u have to lose changing it if they aren't working now? might as well try everything before you give up.

Customer SUPPORT...

... I just visited the B&G website and sent an Email asking whether the dead coils should be on top or bottom. I also extended them an offer to visit maxima.org and view some of the problems we are running in to (rear end sag, printed writing on the spring up or down). Should be an interesting response. Here's their contact information:

your springs are on backwards

The springs are progressive...the tighter, more closely spaced coils go on top.

Yep, they were upside down - flipped them over, and now the rear sag is gone!

Thanks everyone.

Never solved the vacuum - still reads never over 15hg at idle, and 20 at full vacuum (after blipping gas or on freeway). Paid 2 mechanics and spent 6 months trying to find/fix it - never did. Must have reinstalled and resealed my manifold with RTV Sealant and new gaskets and replaced every vacuum hose at least 4 times.

The SC still never reads over 7 lbs of boost, even with a 3.25" Pulley - but the hp numbers are there (277hp with an Auto ain't bad!), so I just don't care anymore....Of course, without the MEVI, I'd be at like 245hp, which is still lower than I would think it should be, especially with a new Exhaust/B-Pipe.

Then all 4 rims got bent on a road trip - all just slightly, but I had to get it fixed.

Then axles - 3 in 3 months.

The 3rd axle was going when I put on the B&G's, which were the wrong B&G's, and were actually Ford Focus Springs....The car was nearly touching the ground.

Got the right B&G Springs, and the axle noises were gone - replaced the axle that had been failing anyway, just to be safe.

Then the rear sag, which brings me to today.

Now, for the first time in awhile, my car is running perfectly (minus the vacuum and boost, which I have decided is just normal for my engine, even though my compression was above spec).

The 5spd will be here next week. That will be a whole other saga.

Hey Ians have you try maybe cleaning or changing(swapout the TB from another MAX) the TB might be stuck according to Chilton.

Nope, I spent hours looking at the TB - it's fine.

Also, went through every suggesion in both the Chilton's and Haynes manual - nothing.

Also, if it was stuck, the car would idle wrong - it idles perfectly at 650.
