Brake problems

I changed the front pads about 2 months ago. I followed motorvate and Haynes instructions and saw no problems. The guide pins were in good shape and the piston compressed without issue.

Since last week the front of the car wants to float a little bit at highway speed. So I look at the front wheels and I see scrape rings on the rotor or both sides! there are several little scrapes and one wider (.25") scrape about 3/8" from the outside of the rotor. They aren't deep. I haven't heard any funny noises or anything.

I'm wondering if the brakes aren't lifting completely while I drive. That would explain the front end feeling loose as the wheels aren't rolling freely. But what about the scrapes?

Clean and re-grease the pins.

The pins looked fine when I did the pads back in December. It's been an ugly winter, could they both have gone bad in that time?

I understand why this would cause pad drag and premature wear, but scratches in the rotor?

Check the boots around the pins. If one of those cracks, they grease in there won't stand a chance for long.

brakes are all about friction....grooves are no big deal, warp is what is bad. what you are probably seeing is the high spots, and the pad is wearing into them faster than the rest as the rotor and pad wear in to each other. if you have no vibrations, don't panic...like the other post said, clean and regrease the pins, maybe give them a quick bleeding and put it back together. if it doesn't shake, leave it alone.
