Good question, I would still go with a high quality double sided tape like a 3M industrial brand. The problem with glue would be that it could ruin your paint if ever you decide to take it off, and I'm not so sure how well it would stick over a long time. A good quality automotive tape would probably do the job and could be taken off if you decided to, just make sure the surface is clean. I'm sure some of our fellow enthusiasts might be able to substantiate this for you.

I would use strong double sided tape. I use 2 part epoxy for stuff I want to stay in place forever, but you shouldn't use this for what you want to do because the paint will come off before it unbonds

What about Bubble Yum?

I heard everything can be stuck forever on the stuff. Look at the bottom of your shoes! haha j/p the 3M company makes great stuff...double sided tape and 3m-77. I stock those things like water. Use the tape..since its easier (and cheaper) to reapply tape than repaint the trunk.
