replacing whole system

I know this is in the faq's but i just wanted to clear up a few things. i am going to relace the stock speakers and head unit with new speakers and a cd head unit. my friend said he could install it all for me. i heard it was a lot to have this installed somewhere around 200? now the part im confused on is the wiring. Am i going to have to rewire the car? if so- i have no clue how to and my friend probably doesnt either. does this cost more at a place like circuit city or somewhere? how much ? thanks

from my experience (basic for car stereo stuff), speakers are plug-n-play and there is no rewiring for the headunit. You just get a harness that will hookup to the OEM harness. A place like tweeter etc. would prolly charge you $50 to install a HU and $40 per pair of speakers.

speakers are unscrew, replace, screw and adjust the wires accordinly (hook em up to the new speakers)...head unit, just get the adapter NickStam was talking about, which converts the head unit wiring to the stock OEM adapter.

I went to PC Richard for the Pioneer headunit. They did free installation. The only think I payed for was the installation kit for it. I bought the speakers from Best Buy, payed between 40-60 for the front/rear installation. Im in Jersey...Hope this helps

i thought all i had to do was replace the head unit and speakers, but in the FAQ's i see it says replace wiring...."But as for replacing the headunit, its a Double DIN headunit. Any headunit that fits the ISO DIN can fit. You can also fit an ISO DIN headunit in the fold down pocket space. To make the antenna connection, you must by a "nissan diversity adapter". I got mine from Circuit City for about $10. I do not know if an aftermarket harness adapter is available, but I chose not to use one. You will have to run new wires for the speakers anyway. So you will only have to tap the constant 12 volt, switched 12 volt, power antenna trigger, illumination and find a ground (I will post wire colors as soon as I find them). "

i really dont need to do this? why does the faq say you should?

if I remember correctly, since its been so long ago, all they did for the speakers was cut the factory connectors to the speakers. Maybe I'm wrong. I know that they needed a 'Nissan' kit for the head unit. I also bought the kit for the compartment on the bottom of the radio

http://www.crutchfield.com/cgi-bin/S...569&display=XL

do i still need to buy anything to have it installed
also im buying it from somewhere else for cheaper and im thinking i will just have my friend install it. so i still need this "nissan converter"?

I installed the entire setup with myself and two of my friends. A new deck, all new speakers, and an amp and sub. The only hard part was getting at the rear speakers. It requires removal of the back seat. The deck was the easiest part...you don't even need an aftermarket installation kit. Most decks will fit right in the stock plastic frame, at least my Sony did. The front speakers were easy, just remove the door panels and you're pretty much there. There really is no need for any wiring harnesses besides the one required for the deck. But all you need for the speakers is to cut the factory harnesses off the speakers and splice in connectors that will fit the speakers and that's all there is to it.

Yea, you can see the speakers, but you can't remove them from below. They have to come out on top, you'll see why once you look at it more closely. That's why you have to remove the back seat, it's alot easier than it sounds. But then you can pop these 2 orange clips in the trunk up and remove the 3rd brake light then the big cover lifts off revealing the speakers. They have 4 screws holding them down from the top, that's why you can't remove them from the trunk. The front speakers...you can't pop the covers off. You actually need to remove the door panels with just like 2 or maybe 3 screws then it slides off pretty much, can be tough though. Then there's a plastic baffle that covers the front speakers that you can remove by unscrewing the screws that hold it in place, then you have access to the speakers.

Hey Paul,is your HU Bose or regular unit?If it is Bose then you are going to need to cut and bypass your amp at each speakers. Not just putting the speaker in and cut the factory harnesses off the speaker wire and splice in connectors.

right but you cant take the speakers out of the trunk because the screws are going through the inside of the car. The speaker covers arent removable, they are built into the back deck. you need to remove the back deck. In order to take that out, the back seats have to come out. And to take out the back seats, the bottom cushion has to come out first...its all like a domino affect....

Yep,that's right you have to take all that out just to get the speaker out. Well it's not that hard at all.

Lot of work for sure. After finally getting my hands on a good pair of speakers - I swapped out the rear ones a few days ago. The hardest part was removing the plastic covers that are on either side of the rear windshield (where the top of the seatbelt goes into). Be real careful - I ended up cracking part of that cover (super-glue to the rescue).

Good Luck.

If I were you - I'd install the fronts myself (much , much easier than the rears) and have a pro install the rears.

I think you should also, like I said before, I spend around 30 something to replace them in Best Buy..they did a perfect job putting everything back together again

2 screws at the very bottom of the door panel. One inside the pocket used to grab the door when opening / closing. This one is located under a small plastic pop-cover - use a flat screw driver. Then just slide out the pocket.
Finally - pop the lens cover of the door light (pry it slowly with a flat screwdriver on either side). Once the lens cover is off - remove two screws holding the fixture to the door panel and disconnect the wire.
The trim piece surrounding the inside door handle on the inside is just clipped on. Pry the trim with a flat screwdriver on either side and remove the trim.

After these trim / screws are removed - just use a flat screwdriver and pry between the door panel and the door itself on the bottom and either side until you hear little pops (the door panel is also secured by those infamous plastic clips).

After that - just lift the panel up and away and just reach behind and disconnect the connector going into the window control switch.

It's really not that hard. Took me probably 15 minutes for the first one and about 5 minutes for the second door.
