TCS + Slip Stay ON! Help!
TCS + Slip Stay ON! Help!
Like the title says, my TCS and Slip lights have been staying on in my 1999 ATX nissan maxima with 106,000 km on it. Im suspecting a trany problem but can anyone verify and let me know if i shouldnt be driving it or not? My CEL has also recently come on but I think it had something to do with the 02's since they havnt been replaced yet and my O/D button used to flash but it has stopped for quite a while so i had ruled out transmission... can anyone lend me some knowledge or advice?
My CEL has been on for a couple of weeks now. Its a 0304 (knock sensor) and 0201 (Ignition signal primary). Every once in a while when I start the car, the TCS + SLIP light will also come on...either at time of start up or while i'm driving it'll just turn on. It doesn't come on every time though. Just once in a while. I'm not sure if its related to your problem or not........hope its not a tranny issue. Have you pulled any codes?
I have a 99 SE automatic with a similar circumstance. When the Check Engine light came on, the SLIP light also came on.
Once I pulled the codes ( knock sensor, ignition signal, & Cyl#2 misfire) and cleared the codes, the CEL and slip went out
You s/b OK once you clear the ECM

d_hammer, you said you had both knock sensor code and ignition signal code, did u have a bad knock sensor? Or once you replaced an ignition coil, all codes disappeared?
I need to know if having a bad ignition coil can trigger a ghost knock sensor code.
Right now I have both an ignition code and knock sensor code. But i know for a fact my knock sensor is good b/c i just replaced it and its been tested.
Haven't had time to pull ignition coils yet....too cold up here in canada. Can anyone provide a how-to to test ignition coil?
Thanks.

There is a test using a multmeter for the coils, and comparing the bad coil reading to the other "Good" coils. Another method is to switch the suspected bad coil to a different cylinder, and see if the misfire code also switches to that cyl.
In my case, the coil was bad intermittently. Once the code came up twice, I just replaced the coil. Just two screws and a wiring harness to change.
BTW it is -14 degrees here in Toronto today
d_hammer, where did u get your ignition coil from and how much? If u dont mind me asking.

Yes all codes disappeared after the coil was replaced.

Did anybody find the fix for this problem. It seems it could be a transmision or sensor problem. Any solutions?

nobel: I bought the coil from St Clair Nissan ( 3275 Dundas St W) for $158 including tax. Note that the coils on the front bank are a different item number than the rear bank ( different wiring harness configuration ). The CEL will tell you which cyl is misfiring, and which coil to replace
