Question about misfire code

Took my car to the dealer today to get a diagnostic run on the check engine light. Got the code myself and it told me it was a misfire but did not tell me which cylinder. Dealer got the same thing and told me to replace all 6 coils. What's up with this? I can't believe that all six coils went bad at the same time. Anybody ever had this experience before?

Needless to say I know the parts manager and he gave me a coil for each side to try. I figure I will replace each coil one at a time for each side and when the check engine light no longer comes on then I have it limited to at least one cylinder on each side.

Anybody have any other ideas or is there one specific coil that goes bad on 99 Maximas?
