Engine Lacks Power (From Haynes)

1. Incorrect ignition timing
2. Faulty coil

Can anyone explain #1? And are these common on '98 Maximas?

Ignition timing and fuel injector timing is controlled by your crank and cam shaft sensors.

Note: There are two crank sensors. POS and REF
