Improving gas mileage

gas prices suck right now as I'm sure you all know. Just wondering if there is any specific tuneups that I could do that would improve my mileage. I plan on replacing spark plugs, PCV Valve and fuel filter for sure just because it needs done. Anything else I should do?

Try using one of those fuel injection additives. I also have synthetic oil which cleans out all that crap buildup, which helps with the gas mileage.

Re: Improving gas mileage

There are several basic things you can do to improve gas mileage.

New air filter.
Check the air pressure in your tires and make sure they are near the max.
Check ALL of your vacuum lines and connections to make sure you don't have any tiny leaks.
Check the operation of your EGR and EPR valves.
Clean your throttle body valve.

and check other posts for things like simple steam cleaning your engine to get rid of carbon deposits.

The only additive I have used that seems to work in my Max is the Outlaw fuel injection cleaner and octane booster.

Of course, when you do the math, any money you spend on additives, plugs or other replacement parts must give you a substantial increase in mileage to offset the cost. Otherwise, it's just cheaper to buy more gas.

That being said, do everything you can to cover the basic stuff before you spend any money and your Max will run better, longer and get higher MPG.

I have been cleaning all grounds I can find under the hood. MPG is up an honest repeatable 10% (+2 MPG). In 100% in town driving am now getting 22 mpg on Automatic 97 I30. Poor man's hyper ground!
