Wheels - Question

Hi,
I'm completely new to this subject 'wheels etc.' and I'm lookin' to get few opinions on what is the best way of getting new rims/tires.
I've visited couple of sites (such as www.wheelmax.com)and looks like I could pick something out of the bunch, but the question is 17" or 18" rims.
1. 235x40x18
2. 225x45x17
I definitely don't want any rubbing. Performance is not my biggest thing, my objective is to get reliable and maintenance free and all season tires/rims.

Your suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Re: Wheels - Question

I'm about to get rims too. I want 18's but it's difficult to find something affordable and lightweight. Some people don't think it makes much of a difference but I have felt otherwise. Of the line in an automatic it's especially noticeable. I think i'm gettin my rims from discount tire simply because there are lots of stores around in case i have problems with my rims/tires. They are good about honoring their warranty from my experience.

mb1, thx for your reply.

koldsimer, I did some research and so far I can tell you that most of the aftermarket rims are warranted only a year; however tires that just depends on the manufacture. I'm sure on this forum guys will give you few pointers.

Good Luck

Well, i've bought two sets of tires and rims from discount tire and also purchased the extended warranty. No matter what my dumbass did to those tires they always replaced them with no hassles. This includes three sidewall punctures while 4-wheeling my blazer in N.M. They trully stand behind their warranty.

Umm, Discount Tire. They are located predominately in the south and west I think. They have a great website though.

I found some 17's the tire size is 235/40 ZR 17. I'm riding on a 2" drop with Sprint springs - would I have any problem with those tires rubbing? I was told the offset was 40, will that bolt right up to my Max? I don't know much about bolt patterns any help would be appreciated
-Thanks

alright guys here goes..

you want to keep your tire diameter stock even if you get larger size wheels..you keep it stock so you dont mess up your speedometer reading or mess up your odometer..if you want 17s, get a 235/45/17..if you want 18s, get a 235/40/18..i have 18s on my car with those dimensions and there is no rubbing and everything is great..as far as offsets, mine are +45 and they look great, but most offsets will be fine..also, bolt patterns for maximas are 5x114.3

hope this info helps u guys

actually man, 235/40/18 is closest to stock if you do the calculations..

205/65/15 = 25.49 (those were the size of my stock tires)
235/40/18 = 25.40

heres the site for the calculations http://www.geocities.com/jgadlage/tirecalc.html
