It will stay on for a certain number of ECU cycles, I can't remember the exact number right now, but if the problem is intermitent, it may shut itself off, but it will come on again if the problem persist.

Last summer mine used to do that all the time, checked the code and came up w/ 0409, O2 sensor related. For a while it would stay on for up to 2 weeks, then turn itself off. Maybe that time it was a sign telling me that one of the O2 sensors has almost had it

50 Cycles means 50 starts of the car, once that occurs the car rechecks the ECU.. this is what i was told by a very knowlagable member of the ORG... as for pulling the ECU, there are some codes that will throw, and not show a CEL, but from what i understand any ECU reader can get them, just gotta find someone with the device.. people around here charge you upwards of 90 bucks to get that done

The franchise auto parts store, AutoZone will pull ECU codes for free. (It helps them sell parts.) I'm in UT however, I don't know if that store is where you are at. Maybe another autoparts store in your area does the same thing. It is quite handy, you get all the codes and don't have to count and look it up yourself.

Oh I didn't know that. thanks a lot. but my question was: my CEL light went on last wed and two days ago, it went out. i want to know if the code gets stored, or when it goes out it deletes the code?
