Sometimes I hate my Maxima....

After spending all this time and money to replace my first blown pre-cat ($480), Rear heated 02 sensor... I try to drive off and no luck.

I drive it for about 5 minute come home, have a total loss of power. We look under my car to see my pre-cat is GLOWING RED HOT. Then after shutting the car off fuel pump was contined to pump fuel or tried untill I loosened my gas cap.

Then, I tried to pull ECU codes only to turn my screw PAST the stop, and recieve no codes. I am ****ed to say the least.

I'm thinking screw the cali-spec stuff and go straight piping...
I need an idea or suggestion.

Ummm sounds like your seriously running lean and most likely have fried your replacement pre-cat and 02 sensor. Good news is you can get your money back from the dealer cause they didnt fix the problem, bad news is that its probally a more serious problem. Did they ever say what caused the lean condition that lead to the failure of the pre-cat?

My guess would be to check the MAF sensor, fuel injectors, fuel pump, wiring, and worse case the ECU. The fuel pump running after the car is shut off is pretty weird . Do you have any kind of aftermarket mods on or previously installed on your car?

Also if you can get the car safely to an Autozone they can scan all your ECU codes for free.

If all else fails maybe an exorcism would be in order...

1) Its running much worse for the enviroment... I.E melting cats and other things.

2) In Tennessee they really don't care about piping.

3) I'd rather put straight piping than pay 4,000 dollars to replace ALL the cats, ALL the sensors, and ECU

My worry is how well engine mangement will work with straight piping.

the engine management should be fine, I ran a little bit rich with the full exhaust, but thats partly because of many other things, thing is is you have a problem if you're burning up your cats like that, and running straight exhaust wont solve the problems, it just saves you money. I would get my car checked out, car shouldnt be running that lean or hot! and... easiest thing to do would be to check your plugs, see what they look like- they will tell alot

it's not 4000 dollars to replace all the cats, all the sensors, and ECU. u can get a high-flow random tech cat for $200, u can get all 3 O2s at nissanpartstore.com for $200, and even a g-force or JWT ECU upgrade is around $500 so in total ur payin nearly $1,000, not $4,000.

First off there is no JWT ECU for a 99, there is an butt-load more then 3 02 sensors (4 for the pre-cats, MAF, 2 for the main cat) that are going to have to be fixed (cali-spec) would need to be replaced.

lime,

The mechanic was me, mad at the car because its been misbehaving like this for a long time. And as soon as I fix something ANOTHER thing breaks.

Carnal,

Plugs just show signs of running lean.
