axle replacement - left side auto

axle replacement - left side auto
I need to replace my left side axle on a 95 GLE w/o ABS and w/o limited slip.
Has anybody been able to get the left side off by prying without removing the right side first and knocking the left side out?
If the right side has to come off, I'll probably just replace both axles at the same time.
Thanks,
Tim

When you say left side, do you mean driver's or passenger?
If it's the passenger side, there's 3 bolts holding the axle into the fram you have to undo just to the outside of the tranny.
If it's the driver's side, just pull like a **** and it will come out.

I know on my 90 Max w/5-speed the drivers side popped out pretty easily using a pry bar.
Wasn't sure about the auto tranny working that way since the service manual tells you to remove the passenger side and drive out the driver's side axle.
Thanks for the input. I guess I'll try it that way.
By the way, how much disassembly did you do on the wheel/hub in order to get the axle out? How much, if any, fluid came out from the auto tranny?

No fluid - just pulled hard, and it popped out.
Had to contort things a little to fit the new one in, but it wasn't that bad. WOuld probably be easier with 2 people.
