does reving up bother the engine?

i finally got to drive my dad's max and he never revs up the engine or 'drives rough' but i like speeding up with rev up to 4-5k, will this take life off the engine at all??
i know it puts more wear on the wheels but are any other parts endangered when reving up??
- i know this is a stupid question but i was jus curious
thx

my max is a 95GLE with 130K

Sure it does. no need to rev your engine. unless you want to race someone.

Do you mean reving engine while it neutral or just accelerating at around 4-5 because if you mean accelerating then your also putting wear on the tranny which is one of the weakest parts of the Maxima as well as some other parts.

Yes, don't rev your engine unless there is a good reason/purpose behind it. No it won't do anything at first but over time it will.

Uh, the VQ can definatally handle "accelerating" to f'ing 4-5k RPM. You've gotta be kidding me, stress. If your redlining your car 20 times a day then you'll have problems, but taking it up to 4-5k rpm is nothing at all. Redlining or shifting close to won't hurt every now and then either. Just keep notice of maintnence check-ups, and watch for any symptoms of stress to the engine. But my sister has 180,000 miles on her ORIGINAL '95 GXE auto tranny and it's still going strong. And she used to beat the **** out of it.

Reving to 4-5k is not going to take life off your engine...even redlining it often won't really hurt it. Nissan's have pretty "safe" rev-limiters on them...with stiffer valve springs you can rev them a lot higher and still not worry about much valve train wear. Actually, for the valve training one of the worst things you can do is let the engine idle for extended periods of time or cruise at less than 2000 rpm. It's still not going to ruin the engine, but more valve train wear occurs at 1000rpm than at 5000rpm, this is because the valve springs are made to over come the great inertia produced at 3k-7k rpm, so at low rpms they have no interia to work against so the springs are doing the opposite of "floating" and slaming metal to metal the hardest.
