who would win?? z28 or not z28. manual or automatic.. cause right now i have to choose between a maxima or a camaro... my brother already has a tight camaro and its pretty phat.

Just rented a V6 Camaro convertible while in Hawaii a couple weeks ago.

I was suprised how heavy that thing is. 3500lbs to pull with a 200hp engine. (Ok, the coupe is 200lbs lighter)

Gave it a great workout on a Sat night following a volcano visit. Two locals (one pickup, one SUV) were running the mountains along the ocean fast as they could. They knew the turns well before I did and I could barely keep with em.

I did like how the Camaro hugs the ground and has very little roll (except when I hit a dip and lost all contact). So low that the catconv sticks up through the pass floor area. Very balanced with little push in the turns (RWD is so much fun). The V6 just doesn't have the umph when you floor it though. I'm sure there's no comparison between this and the Z28 or SS models.

The Max seemed lighter and sportier - especially straight acceleration. I think it is .5-1sec quicker 0-60 anyway.

If you want RWD racing then get the Z28. For the most fun sports-sedan then get the Maxima!

i can beat a auto LT1 all day long, dead even with a standard one too, but if you are talking about LS1, i am not even near'em, probably hanging 2-3 cars behind. I like camaro's, but i think maxima is a better car to own, it last longer, and it holds itz value, unlike the domestic car. Then again, if you are looking for something just power! power! power!, Camaro (Z28 LS1) is the definite way to go.

I hear that the Camaros tend to handle better than the
Trans-Ams... The Trans-Ams are really sloppy -- like a stock Maxima...

I drove a Trans Am once with a V8... it stunk... Suspension couldn't handle all the power...

Unless you are knocking on the door of 13's, a 6-speed Z28 will run away from you. They are very fun and real fast for about 85,000-100,000 miles depending on how you drive. Then they start coming apart, if not sooner. The new V6, 5-speed vs. 4th gen Max 5-speed stock for stock, would be pretty even with good drivers. (I would not want to do any upgrades on the Camaro) These are honest answers, unlike some of the biased opinions. The V6 Camaro if driven hard will sound like a pissed of can of rocks after about 60,000 miles (I dogged the **** out of my ex's all the time). For performance the Z28 is the answer. For reliability and a car seat the Max is definately the way to go.

Well this is easy. Z28 is fast, unreliable, but cheap.

Maxima fast, (not as fast as a Z28 of course) but very reliable and has room.

Camaro V6, slow, heavy for the amount of power.

My sentra can kill a V6 camaro with the 200hp engine, kinda funny.

ok, talk is cheap... this guy , with HEAVY mods got his SC to pull a 13.3 with supercharger and 100 shot NOS. I'm sure you need to deliver about 200,000 more pizzas before your car is as fast as his.

If you compare yourself to a supercharged maxima then I see no way you can win as SC maximas run low 13s and I think one guy hit a 12 something.

I have a lot of respect for the thunderbird SCs they WERE a great car, but they are getting old, its time for somethign a little newer. You think you're driving a sports car? you are in the same boat as all of us... a lux/sport car that is fun to drive, you just happen to have a ford.

But I know for a fact that a S/C Max can beat the T-Bird, I've been in a S/C Max as well. I almost bought an sc about 9 years ago. had about 29k miles. loved it. then determined that the reason he was selling it so cheap was that the engine was blown 3 different times and replaced under warranty. I stepped up to the plate and bought a 5.0 instead of the sc. this was back in highschool btw. I dont think they are killer fast. heck my 5.0 ate a lot of them for lunch. Even my volvo beat a v8 thunderbird from a stop. So supercouper, we appreciate your opinions but you wouldnt touch my car.

A supercharged max is faster than a Cobra, as fast if tuned right with a LS1 fbody. No way a t-bird will hang. T-bird SC is more comp for a stock 5spd 2k Maxima.

I think the SC Bird was good for a 7 sec 0-60 and 15.5+ in the 1/4 mile. SOunds the same as my stock 5 speed max. I raced one once (years ago b/c not many of them still run) and we were even until abou 80 or so when I began to pull away... They were a neat problem solve for Ford in their day...just throw a supercharger on a regular plain jane engine and add some extra plastic. They tried this after the Turbo 4 cylinder T Bird bombed... At least the Turbo Bird had cool tail lights!

Oh yeah some more info here...

Basically what I can see a 7 sec 0-60 and a 15.2 at 88 mph. Well all year maximas beat the 7 sec 0-60 easily, and the 15.2 is beaten by the 2k Maxima 5spd. But I can say he is comp for a 4th gen 5spd.

I just bought a 99 Max SE few months ago, traded in a 99 Camaro SS on it, and truthfully, the Camaro was insanely fast which is why I got rid of it, couldn't keep my foot out of the gas, with minor bolt ons (exhaust, intake, MAF) I ran 13.67@106mph with a 2.23 60 ft time, get that to a 2.0 60 ft time and you're looking at low 13's.....now the Maxima, although never haven driven in a supercharged maxima, I think it would take a lot to get a Maxima to the low 13's and then you're not really comparing apples to apples. The Camaro had looks, speed, handling and decent reliability, I never had any problems with my car....the Maxima's interior is higher quality leather, better to drive long distances in and gets about the same gas mileage. I really don't think you can compare the two cars because they're both built for a different performance, yeah you can make each one go insanely fast but I honestly think the Camaro will be the fastest for the least amount of money due to the base HP you start off with for each car. Just my opinion though......both cars are sweet but from what I've gathered in my own poll, my female friends like the Maxima much more.

One of my friends has a 97 camero v6. One of the others has a 00 Max and mine is a 97.
He creams both of us off of the start but we over take around 3rd gear
we were all in the 00 max the other day and a guy in a Z wanted to race.
NO CONTEST!!
He killed us. At 80 he was at least 4 car lengths ahead.
But, i would still go for the max. better handling and much more comfortable.
Besides, if your gonna mod it out then you can make the max faster and suprise everyone.

No you wouldn't unless heavily modified....
I have a 94 V8 TBird.... I've kept up with the SC's no problem.... from dead start the SC is quicker but after 30-35mph my torque kicks in and it's no problem at all to catch up.... max's can keep up with my TBird so---don't go talkin trash until you talk the truth.
