Tranny Bearing Question ??

Ok probably come early spring I am going to have my tranny rebuilt since I got a good quote on it and the guy is letting me go there while he does it so I can watch. Anyway my main question is, when I do all the bearings, will I need shims for all the bearings ?? and if so, are they the same at the diff carrier bearings ?? or all the other bearings have different shims ?? 97 I-30 LSD tranny 70K miles

One more thing is im gettin a noise like a PSSHHHHHHH sound when I shift into gear..moslty 3,4,5...as I put the shifter in gear, clutch down, the tranny makes a pshhhhh sound as I slide it into gear..NOW my one guess is that its the bearings showing a sign of wear....I know its not the syncros cause my buddies tranny doenst make that noise and he just got his rebuilt...

Im tryin to gather some info before I go jumping into a rebuild..Maybe I should do the syncroes too...shifting is normal as it comes

your tranny

I just blew a bearing or something out in my tranny (97 maxima) and just ordered a quaife and act stage 2 clutch. I was wondering how much you were being charged to rebuild your tranny? i think your bearings may have been worn. mine just went out while i was cruising home on the interstate. It really sux but now I have an excuse to use my 0% interest credit card!!!

Re: your tranny

Im paying $620 with all parts I need...your price will be ALOT higher since the bearing blew apart inside the tranny and probably fuc*ed up the syncroes and maybe the gears...

I need to know what that PPPSSHHHH sound is in my tranny..anyone with bearings problems encounter this ?

Yea

Mine had that same sound when you'd have clutch pushed in and shift gears, my suggestion is to get it rebuilt and not drive it any more. by the way I'm not sure what it is yet but it still drives and everything-although I'm not risking blowing the case apart.

I would recoment replacing the clutch while you have it apart cause its a paint in the a$$. But the psssshhh noise probubly isnt the bearing.
