Okay, strange happening after TB Cleaning
Okay, strange happening after TB Cleaning
So, Last night I cleaned my throttle body. Later that night I was on the phone with a friend of mine and he mentioned something about my drop in K and N filter that i had in my stock air box. He told me of a dispute on the merits of a K and N type filter/intake in that a study was shown that those with k and n filters were shown to have more particles in their oil than those with a stock paper filter. Now, the extra horse, if that, that is gained by the k and n filter does not outweigh the longevity of my engine due to particles acululating in the oil. So, this morning, before i left for school, i threw the paper filter in. When I parked at school, and put the car into park with the engine running I noticed that my idle was higher than normal. It was about 900-950 rpm. When the k and n, the idle speed was about 750rpm. With the K and n, I was barely able to tell that the engine was running when sitting in park. Now, with the stock, I can definately tell it is running now that the rpm rests at 950. What's happening here? I did not mess with the idle screw so I don't knwo whats going on. And yes, the car fully warmed up on the way to school. Anyone? Oh and thanks to all those who answered my first post regarding my previous concerns.
howZ the weather there? if it's cold, ur idle will be higher than normal at start... but it should drop back to 750rpm after runnin.
if tat's not the case, ur stock filter may be uncleaned or unoiled... can u post some details regarding ur stock filter and its condition? how long have NOT been using ur stock filter?

I've been running a K&N drop in for about 25K miles and my oil analysis comes back very clean. The reports show absolutely no contamination due to poor air filtration.

When I cleaned my TB, it caused the idle to increase to close to 1k. It is the chemicals burning off in the combustion chamber that causes this increase; so says Nissan. I noticed that it would be a good idea to change your oil the next day after you clean the TB, due to the fact that my MPG increased dramatically and power was increased too. Run the engine a liitle harder for that day b/c all that carbon build you loosen, in turn gets into your oil = dirtier than normal oil = bad engine wear over a long period of time. Basically, just don't change your oil then clean the TB, do it vice versa, for your engine's sake.
