Spoiler separating from trunk

My spoiler seems to have a small (about 1cm) gap between it and the trunk lid around the edges of the part that touches the trunk. Does anyone know if this gets worse with time? Can it be fixed in a simple way (tighten a screw inside the trunk maybe?) or is this going to need to be removed and re-done at a body shop? I'd rather not have to goto a body shop.

Re: Spoiler separating from trunk

You could order the kit from nissan, but I would get the parts from your local junkyard. just a hint: mine is still flapping in the wind, just never have fixed it until this post. Good Luck !!!!

What is "the kit" you speak of? And what are "the parts" I would get from a junkyard? I love junkyard hunting =)

I think there is a TSB on your spoiler problem. Look it up.

I checked the TSB's for a 97 SE (my car) in alldata.com and nothign came up for a spoiler problem.

Can someone either link me to it, or anything already posted about this being common and how to fix it with this "kit" spoken about earlier in the thread?
Thanks

bump

anyone know specifics on where I can get the TSB (besides alldata.com) for the spoiler lifting from the trunk lid? Any info on this "kit" mentioned earlier in the thread?

i got this same problem as well on the right side of the spoiler. Looks like it was held down by adhesive and now its a little off...nothing to go crazy over but if its a easy fixing, i'm interested to see the solution.

Re: anyone know?

I am calling Nissan now about this problem. I have been meaning to fix this since I bought the car 7 months ago.

Re: Re: anyone know?

Okay, here is the deal...
The problem is that the grommet has broke and you will probably need to replace the pad/spacer the Nissan technician said he did not know if they were pads and/or spacers; as if it even matters. Also the clips are busted too, so you will have to replace those as well. Here are the part numbers:

Grommet (1) : #01553-09621 $2.79
Clips (1): #01553-04631 $6.14
Pad/Spacer (1): #09605-31U60 $16.05

*Nissan said that you will have to special order these too.

Your welcome!

p.s.: If you can see the Air temp. sensor blues thread...

Anyone know how to replace these three parts? I assume you need 1 of each for every place the spoiler attaches to the trunk lid right?

Pull down the headliner from the trunk.. Most of tghe time the spoiler is screwed on. Sounds like you are missing the piece between the spoiler and trunk lid....

Wing fix

I have a 97 GLE. The spoiler is one piece fiberglass and it is screwed down to the trunk lid at the two center supports and the sides where they touch the trunk lid. It;s dealer installed and it's usually a crappy job. Take down the trunk headliner. You may see tape over the holes. There are two screws or sheet metal screws in each hole that bolt to the underside of the wing. It may be possible just to tighten them or remove them. Mine were pretty rusted. You'll need new screws. You can get them at Home Depot or a hardware store. Metric screws #6 1.0 by 1/2 " long. If you remove the wing, there is a gasket type material that should sit between the wing and the trunk. Mine was shot so I put some clear silicone. Just a small amout otherwise it leaks out when you tighten it down. Reinstall the wing carefully lining up the holes and use new screws to tighten it down. It's tricky to get the screws in. Mine is now rock solid to the trunk.
