EVAP ecu codes

After getting my oil changed the good ole service engine soon light came on. After pulling the codes and looking them up, its saying there are problems with the EVAP Canister vent control valve and the EVAP Control System. What is the best route to take to troubleshoot this?

Look behind your drivers side rear tire. You'll see a canister, some hoses and a valve with an electrical connection plugged into it. Take that valve out, take it apart and clean it up. Make sure all the moving parts inside are free. WD-40 works well for this. Check the coil with an Ohm meter to make sure it's ok and put it back into service.

That valve is in a nasty spot and is subject to a lot of grime and moisture which usually plug it up.

Good luck!

Right on! thanks for the info and the quick response. One more question, my car is due for emissions testing this month, if I didnt get the evap problem fixed right away, would it cause any problems so that the car wouldnt pass?

From what I understand, this will not affect driving performance or cause any damage to your engine. That light is annoying though. I just tried cleaning mine not too long ago, but the CEL has come back on even after a few resets, so I ordered a new canister and evap valve from the dealer and will pick it up tomorrow.

How much does a new canister and evap valve cost?

It'll run you anywhere between $80-$100 for both , depending on dealer mark-up. The dealer had to order my canister, so the total for me was around $110. I have a Cali emissions car, so that may have also played a factor.

That did the trick! I didnt take the whole thing apart, just sprayed in some WD-40, let it soak a little, then worked the valve and the service engine light has not come on since.

Thanks again for all the help!
