tint advise

im looking to get my rear windows tinted next week and had a few questions that i was hoping someone could help me out with. first of all its between 2 places. one place carries 3M and the other Llumar. i heard Llumar is one of the best and it has metalic flakes. one thing that i dont want is the mirrory look, and i heard metallic window film has that look. the guy with the 3M was bashing on Llumar saying its crap, maybe just to get my business, i dunno. so does Llumar have a mirrory (silver) finish or not? which one should i go with? and does anyone have pics of llumar with 18% or 3M with 20%? thanx to all that reply.

Hi there,

I just got my front and back windows done with Llumar tint (5% on the back and 50% on the front) and there is no metalic, mirrory or silvery look to them at all. However I did specifically request that, and I beleive they do make the mirror-finish tint also.

As for the quality, Llumar comes with a lifetime guarantee against fading, bubbling and scratches (at least where I got mine). I can't quite rate the durability of it though, as I just got it about a month ago.

So far I'm happy with the tint.- Although I couldn't be less happy with the place I got it done at- Had to go back and forth over five times because they screwed up the tint on certain windows- with foreign matter between the window and tint film, and in the process cracked both of my back side interior panels. All of the damage was fixed or replaced, but I was not refunded for time and travel. - sorry for the rant.

Sorry I can't offer you anything in ways of comparison with 3M, but aside from my experiance w/ the shop, i am pleased with the appearance of my llumar tint.

BTW- this if my first post

All together, total price was...

$184.99

But this icludes $30.00 they charged to remove the previous tint, which took near 8 1/2 hours- I kid you not.
It previously had been chem. dyed or "dipped" on the rear windshield (I'm assuming this was factory-installed since I can't see anyone actually paying for tint so light I wouldn't have known it was tinted aside from the cracks along the bottom of the rear window.)

It was $149.99 for the tint and installation (12 ft. of film)
and the $30.00 for removal
$4.72 tax
Total all together = $184.71

The place I had my windows done at had ATR and 3M. I chose the 3M because it has no metal in it so it won't hurt my radar detector's performance and it had a lifetime warranty against fading. The ATR did not do these. I got 20 in back and 35 up front. My total was somewhere just above $200.

I know this is off subject a lil,so forgive me!this may be a silly question, but imma ask neway, has neone seen the blue tint on the new bimmer's and what do you think that would look like on a black max,cuz i have only seen them on the silver and puter bimmers, and second where would one go about gettin' this tint? And don't say bimmer dealership...cuz yea know they'll do it...but it will cost ya a arm, leg, kidney and a spleen....any thoughts ????

I'm pretty sure my tint is 3m...haven't had any problems. It's been a while but I THINK I remember reading that 3m was good stuff when I was researching this. Could be wrong, but 3m is a good company and most of the stuff they make is quality (except their software...yes 3m makes software....yes it is bad).

Don't get just your rears tinted...I think that looks like crap. The same tint all the way around is the only way to go...

150 is a pretty good price. Thats what mine cost and they've held up great so far. Tints look good on a beige Max so go for it

mirror tint is a whole differnet thing then the more common black tint. just tell who ever is doing it for you that you want black tint and it will not look like mirror tint.
