Take your key and go turn it a couple of times in the lock. Sometimes mine gets a little tight and the button does not work. After I use they key a couple of times it works great. Also check and make sure the switch in the trunk is all the way up.

What I said would only be the problem if you hear the trunk trying to open when you push the button. If the click is not heard then you have an electrical problem somewhere.

Re: Trunk won't open with the release button
I have the same problem with my 96. I definitely have power because I hear the click, just that the latch doesn't open. I use my key now because I haven't had time to change the mechanism, let me know if you try it how difficult and expensive it is.
thanks,
thanks,

Check the latch mechanism in the trunk. Sometimes, that comes loose. It will unlock the trunk so you can open it, but since it may have shifted a little, it may not open the trunk all the way. BEWARE though, that you do not move the latch too much because if you do, your trunk will not open at all. If this happens, you have to take out your back seat and reach into the trunk to play around with the mechanism to get it to release the trunk. It is no fun....

You have probably checked this already, but just make sure the little lever inside the trunk that prevents the remote from operating the trunk release, or the release from inside the car (door panel switch) from working. If you can still hear the solenoid clicking, this could be all that the problem is. Move the lever up or down, then try your remote again. This is also mentioned in the owners manual, if you have one.

There is a little tab in the locking mechanism in the trunck. If it's pushed down the trunk can only be opened with the key. It's a little tab you can move up and down. Try different positions. I'm pretty sure thats your problem if you hear it click. If that works. Go "fix" your friend's car and charge him 50 bucks.
