I don't know what's up, but my car has been acting up on me. First, I think I might need to change the belts on my car because it's starting to squeak; even after I put in some belt dressing. Someone said that was just a temporary fix. Next, I might have to replace my alternator as well. Now, my lights starting to dim when I crack my music up. I might also need to get a 1.5 cap because of the dimming lights. Are the alternator and belts cover under warranty? I hope so because I check the price for a 1.5 cap, and it wasn't cheap. Good...goglie moglie.

 

Since yours is a 96, it is no longer under the 3yr/36k warranty, which covers the alternator. The powertrain warranty only covers engine components (not accessories) and the transmission.

 

Darn it! That means I have come up with the money to fix these problems. And I found out something else I might need to fix: CV boot; seem like it has a crack or something. I noticed what seem like oil stain on my wheels. Talk about having problems.

 

both of your problems may be related. You said your belts were starting to squeak....that sounds about right for a 4-5 year old car. You may just need to tighten them. That belt dressing is junk. If your alternator is diming it may be going OR the belts could be slipping and you just can't hear it. If they slip the alt isn't getting turned as fast as it should at idle and it won't make the proper power.

The cv boot can just be replaced and refilled. Much cheaper than waiting for the joint to go.

Other wise it will "p" you off if you don,t. As a matter of fact replace both inner and outer boots at the same time because that is very cheap insurance. Cost around 13 dollars at NAPA.
