Car shaking very hard
Car shaking very hard
Tonight i was on my way to pick up my friend over an hour driving distance. I had no problem when i was going there, but when i was coming back, I felt huge shaking on my car. First i thought it was just road, but whenever i go for acceleration, the car shakes. Especially on 55-65 mph, it shakes really hard that it makes me release the acceleration pedal. I put the gear on nutural and rev up to 6000, but it didn't shake the car. please help me~!
thanks.

Since your sig says that you're looking for 5-speed conv. parts, I assume you're an auto.
And since you tried disengaging the tranny and you didn't feel any violent shaking, it probably has something to do with the tranny. Just a little common sense reasoning.
Also, try taking it for a drive again in your residential area. Post back any more details so you can get more thorough help. Such as what speeds the shaking happens, etc. Also, maybe a odometer reading would help too. Hopefully it's not too bad.

My first impression was tires but since you put the car in neutral and it didn't shake I would rule out the tires. I to am thinking transmission related, maybe a drive axle? Does the car make any noise when making a turn at slow speeds to the right or left?
while driving when the shaking occurs, what does the rpm look like? does it dip to low rpms or does it stay normal? im saying that because on a car that we used to have, it use to bog down when you step on the gas because the MAF sensor was dead so the engine shook until it bog itself down and shut off.
My odometer reading is currently at 58300 miles.
it only shakes hard when it's speed is at about 55 mph ~ 65 mph, when it's lower or higher speed than that, it shakes less. and the rpm is just normal when car shakes. And when i turn my wheel all the way to left or right with slow speed, I hear some kind of metal twisting like sound. Yes, i drive automatic.
Thank you for your help, i really appreciate it

its not the tires, nothing to do with balancing either..only thing i can think is POSSIBLY the transmission or a suspension part..
my car only shakes when im going over 50+ mph, and the faster i go, the worse it is..PLEASE HELP ME TOO GUYS!!

If it's more noticable by far under accelleration, it's your inboard Driver's or Passenger side CV Joint.
Trust me - I spent 4 months and alot of time replacing tires, getting wheels balanced, checking brakes and rotors and engine - etc, etc...
Some people may tell you that the CV Joint would click when turning. This isn't true. Only the Outboard one clicks when turning.....the Inboard causes massive vibraiton under accelleration. Also makes a very dull "whumpwhumpwhump" sound (almost sounds like wind noise in rythm with the wheels).
For me also, it was worst at 55-65, when accellerating mostly, and a little when cruising.
What springs do you have?
Anyway - call Marti at Raxles.com - awesome guy - he'll hook you up with a nice axle.

check it out -- could be the simple answer here (could be something
worse, but, let's eliminate the easy one first!)

I suppose that's an option, but wheel balancing being off at freeway speeds is very noticable even in Nuetral and coasting.....he said it doesn't shake in neutral - I'm assuming he means on the freeway, coasting.
Is that what you meant, maxima8624?
iansw- yes. when coasting, i only can feel little shaking at 55~65 mph, but when i'm giving acceleration at that speed, it's shaking really hard.
but my friends who were sitting on the back seat didn't feel any shakings at all. i guess i only can feel shakings on the front seats.

It's your CV Joint....I'm sure of it. But just to be sure, have a mechanic look at it if you want to be really sure.
