Has anybody else had a problem like this??

For some reason when i am driving in the rain my 96' Max sometimes has this squeling noise coming from the engine area. I have only noticed this when i have the A/C turned on. I remember my 1990 Maxima used to do this right before i sold it, so i never got it fixed. It almost sounds like a belt, but i really don't know what it could be. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Definately sounds like a belt issue. Check the condition, and tension of it. It might just need to be tightened.

you could also try some "belt dressing" available at most auto parts stores.

the thing i am wondering though is if it is A/C related because it only happens when my air conditioner is on. this happened quit often in my old Max too, so i know it is only if the a/c is running.

When your A/C isn't "on"..your A/C belt just kinda "spins along". Once you turn the A/C on though...the A/C clutch that's attached to your compressor engages, and causes more tension on your belt...which puts more drag on your engine...

that's why when you turn on your A/C, your RPM's dip...and also why your gas mileage drops when you use your A/C.

Did I confuse you? Be sure to check the tension on your belt.
