Problem with Y pipe...

got my new budget Y pipe on for two weeks now, and i have one huge problem...i cant stop going WOT on the sucker just to feel the insane increase in pull, especially on the highway...this leading to two problems, HORRENDOUS mpg(13 mpg over last 4 days-going wot atleast 3/5 of the time)with $2/gal isnt good at all, and increased chance of getting a speeding ticket...this mod being a high end mod can have it downsides...

i have a solution.
take a small wooden block about an inch to and inch and a half and tape it behind your gas pedal. there you go. You wont go WOT even if you try!

OT: Last Fall, I persuaded my wifey to allow me to buy the Budget y-pipe with the argument that we could "recover" 20+ HP and be more fuel efficient (some lame logic!). Having more power to run the A/C would also be a big bonus in the summer. In reality, I postpone turning on the A/C as long as I can bear (since it's a huge power sucking device). I much prefer power over creature-comfort.

I like the sound with the stock muffler...I think Flowmaster would be loud and ricy, but if thats what ya want, I think it would be a good muffler. I'd combine it with a Budget B-Pipe.

You think the Y-pipe is bad? Wait till you drive a Maxima with the MEVI/JWT ECU. As you run thru 2nd and bang the shift into 3rd, you'll quickly notice that you're at 75+mph entering 3rd. Getting to 60mph takes no time. Getting to 100mph takes no time. The power is just insane for an NA V6 sedan.

dont think so. price is 250 canadian shipped. the difference is due to the variation of the price of the canadian dollar to american dollar.
i have it. get it. it will make you smile.

I agree that a 40 series would sound like crap. I think a 50 series would sound much better. That's what i have along with a warpspeed y and I love the sound.

You're blind Check the "General" page. I ran a 14.45@99.5mph with a horrible 2.316 60 foot yesterday. Hopefully I'll land a 14.2@100+mph with a 2.2 60'.

Or fold your carpet into two under the pedal so you can't hit it all the way down.HAHA!

does the y-pipe make a noticeable difference in acceleration for the auto? i'm thinkin about gettin one...but i just installed an intake on my auto and i'm realizing that these little bolt ons don't really do much for the seat of the pants feeling...

Yes,it's the best bang for the buck to me(hp gain from 10-20hp have seen with the intake)definitly feel the gain, but not seat of the pants feeling(S/Ced,turbo,or NOS prolly will). It's prolly the best $160 you will spend on mods.

Hello all,

Ok, you guys sold me on replacing my corroded/falling apart Y pipe. My question is:
All over this site, everybody recommends the Budget Y pipe from Canada. I have been searching the web for a Y pipe for my 95 Max and found this site http://www.warpspeedperformance.com/nissan.htm that says "100% made in Canada, not entirely made of 304 stainless as advertised. Now we know why they paint them. You get what you pay for. " and that the "flex" used by Budget Exhaust is not so great.

Can someone help me decide on which one to choose? I am looking for durability.

Thanks for any help you can provide,
SC

after looking at a picture on budget y-pipe, it's painted as well. i now question if it is all stainless steel.

what do you mean on the flex?

Actually, WarpSpeedPerformance says that theirs is all Stainless they then mention that Budget one is not all Stainless this is why they have to paint them. (I guess I should be asking this question to Budget Exhaust)

Later on the site, WarpSpeedPerformance mention that the flexible section they offer is high quality lined unlike the one offered by Budget. "Our competition had to learn it from us. If you bought one of those bargain budget pipes we can fix it too." Which one should I buy?

Thanks,
SC

My $0.02 is that you sort out the facts from fiction (of the marketing sort). I've had my Budget y-pipe abused by one winter's worth of salt. I jacked up my car last Fri & it looks fine. Ditto with the Budget b-pipe. The paint they've applied is not only unnecessary, it comes/burns off pretty quickly. As I understand it, the paint is more for aesthetics than functionality.

I'M LOST!

www.warpspeedperformance.com says that with the y-pipe they got a "2.5 mpg better gas mileage." Are they just saying that for advertisement purposes? I don't know what's true anymore...many of you claimed that with the y-pipe you get a lot WORSE mpg...so what's the deal here? Also...tell me straight up...should I choose a warpspeed or budget y-pipe???

If you get any aftermarket y-pipe, you will love your new-found power so much you will go WOT much more often. You will not drive in a civil way any more. I doubt anyone keeps the same driving style after putting in a performance y-pipe.

Only you can decide whose pipe is right for you. We're not in your shoes so we don't know all your circumstances (money-wise, what-not). I went with the value approach.

I think the worse mpg people are getting is due to the fact that they can't keep from pushing the pedal through the floorboard because it so nice to feel the additional power and nice sound. All it takes is a little self control people come on now!!

Amazing! On WarpSpeed's site they say their competition's stuff is bad and their own stuff is great!?! Marketing bs. From what I've seen on ANY item, if they have to put down their competition to get business their own product isn't that much better... A business always loses points with me when they have to stoop to this.

The Budget y-pipe was a bolt on with no issues for my '97. No: clanking, banging or bees in a can sounds either. For $160 its a bargain. Gas mileage will be worse with your foot on the floor. If you keep your foot out of it, you will likely get BETTER mileage due to the exhaust being less restrictive.

Any time you make MORE horsepower you use MORE gas. Increase the air and the fuel needs to increase to keep the fuel to air ratio correct.

One thing I will say is that the welds on the budget are UGLY. Does it bother me? No. If people are looking at it, likely my car is upside down and I've got other things to worry about...

Good luck,

Jim

Thanks for the insight guys... I like 4drsc's comments. No bees in the can etc... I'll order my budget Y pipe before the one on my 95 falls down.

Thanks again,
