Maxima stalling randomly and hesitaing

Hey everyone, I am have some problems with my max. Ok I have a 96 Max, 107,600 miles. The car is due for a tune up, I'm going to change plugs, fuel filter, air filter, everything I can. Well for the past several months when I start up my Maxima (cold or hot), it hesitates while starting. Sometimes I have to hold on the key for like 3-5 seconds for the motor to ignite. And if it doesnt do that, it will start up but make a weird noise, almost like something is clogged. (I do have an aftermarket cone filter, but that's it).

Now the car has been giving me problems when starting up period. Sometimes it will not start up at all, then after several tries it will. And sometimes it will start then immediately die. Also sometimes when I'm driving slow or coming to a stop the car dies and stalls. Could this problem perhaps be I need a new O2 sensor.

Help my stalling MAXIMA, please!

Fuel pumps are easy to change...

pricing is between $175 and $239 at Auto Zone and Dealer respecively

I just priced them two days ago.

Ok so you guys all think it's a bad fuel pump?

Also does the maxima have an in-tank fuel pump?

It's worth a stop at an Autozone to see what codes might be in the ECU, not all failures/problems trip the CEL. I suggest changing the fuel filter before looking into the fuel pump and give your air filter a cleaning. Do you get any bluish-gray smoke out the tailpipe when starting? If so, then you may have a clogged/restricted EGR. Even without the smoke signal, it would be worth looking into to see if it's clogged up.

If it is overdue for a fuel pump and plugs and overdue for an air filter cleaning, I would suggest you fix those items before you spend $250 for a fuel pump.

My bet is that it is the fuel filter and plugs.

Clean your throttle body!
Goto www.motorvate.ca for instructions.

If that doesn't solve your problem check or change your engine coolant temperature sensor.

A freind of mine had some similar problems with his SER Spec-v and it turned out to be his Crankshaft Position Sensor or something like that, got it replaced and its all better now. You really may want to try to pull the codes from the ECU.

As a side note, a co-worker was having similar problems in this Jeep GC, I suggested the Crankshaft sensor, as it sounded like my freinds problem. He took it to the dealership and sure enough, same thing. Maybe its that time of year?

Make a good tuning before changing expensives parts. Change sparks plugs, air filter ( or clean it) gas filter, clean your throttle body, and anything that can have a link with your air or fuel.

If the trouble is not gone yet, go to a garage to have a look on it. Keep us on touch.
