Got into an accident= me very happy!

Boy, I had one helluva day yesterday. I was coming back from school when I got into an accident. I was a few blocks from home when some stupid punk in a Mazda MX3 decided to run a stop sign. I was half way in the middle of the intersection when I saw a white blur coming at me. I swerved to the right as hard as I could (new suspension paid off) and I almost got around him but I clipped his bumper. His car spun around and came to a stop. I got out of my car expecting the worse but I was pleasantly surprised. My Max only had a scrape in the front bumper while his car was a total mess. His entire rear bumper fell off the car and caused his taillights to pop out. I was going to give him a piece of my mind but he kept profusely apologizing to me and said that his parents were going to kill him. I felt sorry for him. Anywho, I already have an estimate on the damage and its about $1500. My buddy owns a body shop and he said he'll fix the Max for about $500! $1000 in my pocket means MEVI! Wooohooo!

I thought that the insurance adjuster will estimate the damages and pay you accordingly. What you do with the money is up to you.

Man I say go for it... What you do after you paid for your accident is up to you... There is no fraud in this at all... Its your money... Fraud is when you actually claim things and so forth that arent in the vechile etc.... Thats when fraud comes in... Wish I had an extra G in my pocket... do what you do

Npt sure how it is fraud.....

Insurance pays the covered damages to the policy holder. The policy holder generally is able to decide where he wants the work done.

Fraud would involve hitting a pole in a parking lot and telling your insurance company you were the victim of a hit and run.

Although some of our .org jailhouse lawyers may have a different opinion

correct. and staging an accident, etc. The insurance adjuster tells the insurance company how much to pay you, and you can get the work done wherever you want. The insurance company will suggest a place to do the repair, most likely, but it's not usually a place you necessarily want to use. My dad went through this when his car was broken into.

it dont matter, the insurance has to cover the amount of damage caused. And when they send you the money, you can do whatever you want, and this a good way to get ahead of the insurance company, they charge alot anyway, heres how you get some money returned. Thats playing it smart, Good job

1500 eh,, only a scratch/scuff to bumper eh

well, i was in a wreck recently too, and i scraped my right side of the bumper, and crumpled my right quarter panel,

estimate for that: 1200

whoever gave you 1500 is on crack, thats all there is to it

http://home.usit.net/~johntom/images/DSCN0719.JPG

Those scratches on the bumper , arent scratches, they are tears, i went by the shop today and the bumper was completely off, looked horrid

I can't see how it is insurance fraud I think we may have spotted the Green Eyed Bandit. The check was cut to you it is in your hands, fraud would being not getting it fixed and trying to claim the same damage again later and not being in a accident. Personally I think you should tell the person who said it to "have a coke and a smile....."

That's a bunch of crap. I pay about $1400/year for insurance and it's time I get some of that money back. As for the damage, it's a little bit more than a scratch (sorry, I was excited when i first wrote this post). My front bumper is pretty scratched and dented, my grill is cracked, and my fog light is busted.

good job bro!
im totally with you, the rates insurance companies charge are just ridiculous! we know it, they know it, but nothing can be done about it. for the outrageous amounts they charge, i would say insurance companies are fraudulent! the status quo of insurance has come to be so pathetic that WE (who pay for our own damn insurance) are afraid to make rightful claims because of the possibility of increased insurance premiums. im glad you screwed your insurance company, they totally deserve it.
they stereotype their clients with sexism and ageism but thats not fraudulent. they look at statistics and charge people by their age, sex, marital status, but NOT THEIR DRIVING ABILITY. a female acquantance of mine hits things on a regular basis, has dents and scrathes all over her car (from hitting other cars), all kinds of curb rash, broke her mirror on a garage, but she pays less insurance than i do because she's female. also, when someone turns a certain age, who's to say they have become a better driver? driving skills don't just click all of a sudden on your 25th birthday.
my boy also got into an accident and he wasn't on the wrong, but because he was in a modified max, insurance accused him of racing in winter with snow(tho there were no cars beside him), and wreckless driving. yeah ok...
anyways, enough ranting...hehe
hope you get your car back on track with the MEVI asap!
