Tapping sound...
Tapping sound...
I have been trying to figure out what this is, but I can't so here it goes.
This only happens when I'm on the highway doing about 65-75 MPH, 70 MPH seems to be the spot where it does it the most. I hear this kind of tapping sound coming from the front of the car, seems like under the hood from inside but I'm not 100% sure. The sound is strange, it's sorta like the sound that something makes when it's really hot and is cooling off, but more muted. There are some creaks and stuff on the inside but I've taken care of all of those I believe. Anyway, I can't figure out what this tapping sound is and whether or not it's something that needs to be fixed. Any ideas? And if I drop down from 70MPH to around 55-60 it stops completely, same if I go faster like 80-85.
Mainly it's driving me insane, I don't think it's something bad really, but I want to figure out what it is.

Watch your RPM's and note the exact point this tapping happens. Then while in neutral standing still, rev your engine to that exact RPM's again and see if the tap is there. If so, you have a valve tap. If you hear nothing, then the tap is coming from the drive trane.

And what would that mean if it have either one of those? And how can you be sure that if I don't hear anything it's the drive trane?
