I'm not even sure if I have a problem. A few days ago I added some R-134 to my a/c system, now almost everytime I turn on my a/c the engine fan come on almost automatically. It came on before but I don't remember it coming on as much. Sometimes it stays on as I'm excellerating but does turn off after driving and getting the air flowing. The temp gauge reads normal and so does the 134 level. Is it me or is there a possible problem?

 

Your engine cooling fans need to run when your A/C compressor is enguaged or the condensor will overheat and your R134 will boil.

Same thing applies for window units and central A/C systems, thats how coolant (R134) absorbes and removes heat from the air.

 

I know it's suppose to run but I didn't think it was suppose to come on even when the outside air temp was not hot. I guess I'm trying to say, it wasn't coming on as often before. Does the fact that the R134 level was low before I added more the other day. I'm going to get my radiator flushed today also. Thanks

I stopped at the stealership and asked them to take a look but they didn't seem to have anyone to spare a few minutes (figures). The one guy said it was normal but no one can tell me why it wasn't doing for the past 3 years I've had the car. Plus and more importantly, it's slowing down my acceleration to the point the engine in under a strain. I'm going back today because I'm not satisfied that this is normal.
